Photographer's Note

Place d'Armes, the veritable heart of Montreal, offers a striking historical panorama. Here, all the periods of Montréal's past are gathered in one place, around a monument dedicated to the city's founder, Paul Chomedey de Maisonneuve.

This section features the oldest standing building in Montréal, Notre-Dame Basilica, the Bank of Montreal head office which is Canada's oldest bank, New York Life building the city's first skyscraper, the beautiful Art Deco Aldred building and the generations of skyscrapers that followed.

It's a very charming neighborhood with narrow cobblestoned streets, lined with bistros, restaurants, cafes and fashionable boutiques.
