Here we have a photo that is dedicated to Paul, known as PJE on TE.
Like myself, he lives near Vancouver, and we both have photographs of the same subjects. Its fun to compare sometimes and use each other as inspiration.
This is the same set-up as he shot, a photo of the Lions Gate Bridge during early sunrise.
His photo is certainly more of a close up version, with a long tele lens, mine is a mid range tele lens.
I wanted to display the tall lines, and geometry of the green Iron. The sun has just risen above the horizon line, and shining brightly on the cable wires, giving them that yellow/gold color.
I hope you like this view.
have a great week everyone

bellissima prospettiva e grande grafismo.
Taglio verticale calcolato al millimetro.

I have not seen PJE's similar photo, but this is certainly a good one. Yes, there are many lines and such, but there seem to be a system. That never fails to give a photo a nice foundation. The bridge itself looks like an excellent one to photograph. It's narrow, it's tall, it has a lot of lines and it's surrounded by a majestic landscape. That mountain in the background seem endless! I wonder how you got that perfect POV as you seem to be standing like 15 meters straight above the road... Good job! You've done a nice work composing it too. You chose the right time of the day, because as you say, the cables have a special color now which look quite nice. Keep shooting, I just added you as a favorite!
Have a nice week,
hispic (9652) 2011-02-27 18:42
Very amazing capture! the cable wires shining in sunbeams early in the morning have been truly beautifully captured with the perfect framing, making good use of compression effect of a telephoto. Fantastic work.
Have a nice day, Hisashi

Stupéfiante, cette photo. Du es extrèmement bien placé, on se demande un peu où en fait. La symétrie est parfaite et la lumière fait ressembler les cables du pont aux cordes d'une harpe. Bravo !

Hi Craig, superb vertical of this lovely bridge. Great composition and light and sharp as well. I haven't seen the other shot you mention, but this is pretty special...TFS!
JCG (35129) 2011-02-27 22:00
A perfect symmetry in the composition of this photograph that I appreciate and which gives much impact to this structured steel tangle. I like graphics and the depth of the image, the morning light brings a particular and soft atmosphere. Pretty architectural glance, well seen Craig.
With all my friendships and an excellent week,
emka (91544) 2011-02-27 22:00
Wooow, the perfect composition. I like a lot all these lines and crosses. Have you climbed on one of these bars to make this photo? Fantastic POV. Great colours and light, wonderful at sunrise. Interesting colour of the background. Big effort and magnufucent result. Impressive picture.
Have a nice week
jjcordier (79295) 2011-02-27 22:15
Une photo des plus impressionnantes avec un POV exceptionnel (on a l'impression que tu étais perché sur le pont). La lumière du petit matin qui éclaire les câbles est fantastique. Splendide, vraiment!
JFS (32459) 2011-02-27 23:09
You are presenting us an extraordinary work here. Lots and lots of details and the mountainous background effect is sensational.
Have a good week!
InasiaJones (31562) 2011-02-27 23:17
I salute this great shot of yours, where light plays on cable like a musician on a harp, making them vibrating beautifully.
I like the tones of gold against purple mountain. I also appreciate the blend of man-made structure and natural context. Perfect symmetry, wet pavement with subtle reflections and interesting framing.
Graal (101782) 2011-02-28 0:10

beautiful view of the bridge at dawn.
Superb POV and great symmetry.
Lots of details of the structure of the bridge, with fantastic colors.
snunney (95023) 2011-02-28 2:13
The graphical lines of the bridge stays are beautifully captured under the early morning light. I like also the contrast between the vertical lines of the stays and the horizontal roadway with the lines of traffic.

No doubt you're still in transit to your holiday, but I couldn't go past this masterpiece. It really is stunning. I love those vertical struts, they look like golden rods. Beautiful symmetry and excellent light management and graphics. A sensational shot, one of my favourites for sure.
TFS and I wish you a lovely holiday
npecanhuk (73554) 2011-02-28 5:13
A very beautiful bridge (glad I could be there for some moments, although I couldn't take any good pictures of it... I was in a bus!).
A very attractive picture of it with superb colors, chosen pov, vertical format, exposure, level of sharpness and composition!
TFS - congrats,
Have a great week,
J_Burke (1285) 2011-02-28 5:38
I like this one a lot, great vertical composition and I'm not sure how you've managed it but you have shot from an excellent point of view. Perfectly framed and symetrical, people using the bridge is a good addition too and ofcourse you have managed to capture all of this in such excellent golden light. Very well done, thanks for sharing.
SnapRJW (31629) 2011-02-28 5:45
Hello Craig - Of course your framing had to be vertical, it's perfect to show off the height and span of the Lion's Gare Bridge. The soft morning light is lovely bringing a warmth to this man-made structure. Best regards Rosemary

I like the final result , and I like what you wrote, but I am still wondering where you were tu capture this fine image.

I like this one a lot. Excellent play with lines and geometrical shapes. The early morning ligth plays well with the steel on the bridge, making it look like a huge harp. Great sense of depth too. Excellent work here! Thanks for sharing. Have a nice week.
Best regards, Erling

Un POV et un cadrage des plus réussi, les teintes des couleurs, les formes et la symétries, une image parfaitement bien réaliser
faletiz (10759) 2011-02-28 10:01
wow what a POV! The view from the top and the cut that you gave this picture make this bridge a pure visual effect and I like it very much. Beautiful light and extraordinary precision.

A masterpiece. Good dynamics, perfect POV. Gorgeous shot.

Craig cordials greeting. A wonderful perspective and composition too, a wonderful photo with very good symmetry. Very well compound and executed, excellent work, congratulation. Have a nice week, thanks for sharing.
cdmonson (4950) 2011-02-28 12:03
Heck of a shot. I love the use of the telephoto to collapse the distance on the bridge and make it seem so much taller. The mountains in the distance also help the feeling of immenseness. One of the finest bridge shots I've seen.
paololg (31448) 2011-02-28 13:24
Splendid image, dear Craig, vertically developed with an interesting symmetry. It seems to see two enormous harps. Excellent photographic quality, especially the management of the sharpness and the warm light of the first sun of the morning. Congratulations!
Ciao, have a nice day!

Complimenti.
Un caro saluto.

Hello Craig, sunrising has given it a beautiful warm glow, impressive image due to the light & tall vertical lines, Well done, just one question, up all night or just out of bed? I hardly ever see the sun rise ;-)
jhm (148834) 2011-03-01 3:54
This is always very lovely when two photographers live close to each other.
Than we get different positions perhaps of the same subject, than we can these place beside each.
Excellent depth and perspective
You took a very nice image, excellent composition
Sharpness and clarity are very attractive.
Excellent done, TFS.
wolf38 (31286) 2011-03-01 3:54
Hi Craig. Truly a great photo with a fantastic composition. Interesting colors. Well observed and presented. Top! Rgds, Wolfgang.
MJR (3360) 2011-03-01 6:09
I spotted this a few days ago, and taken til now to grab a few minutes ! I seen in the meantime Andre has already described as it looking like a big harp - so what else?!
For all that people write of the thirds rule, this absolutely cried out for symmetry, and you have it just right. The high POV is unusual, and consequently offers us something different from the normal driver's eye view. It is interesting to me that such a big bridge was built, presumably quite long judging from the height of towers, but it was only 3 lanes.
What is also curious, and I cant open exif right now, so cant answer it myself, is the bridge really so arched, or is it a trick of the lens and foreshortening. It must be unusual if it is as it appears.
But all in all - delightful.
Martin ( map view would be really handy ! )
TopGeo (38216) 2011-03-01 8:38
Wooow, the perfect composition with great details and perspective,
The high POV is unusual, and consequently offers us something different with symmetry It is interesting! thanks
rodgerg (55767) 2011-03-01 9:58
An excellent POV very well selecetd for this beautiful and very graphic blue hour. The elements and the coloured light arise very well. Excellent graphic effect too nad impression of movement, of dynamism with the cars.
Have a nice evening,
barrufeto_77 (28886) 2011-03-01 11:57
Wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. Excellent picture! My compliments for this POV, for the light management and for the details.
jaywalker (16101) 2011-03-01 15:31
Hi Craig, WOW! What a superb piece of work, this is an excellent photo taken from a great POV, looking down the bridge really captured it's beauty & offers very good symmetry to the picture, it also allows itself as modern art, a quality shot, kind regards Wilson.
Urs (14082) 2011-03-02 0:44
That;s a glorious POV, congrats Craig, that is a master shot, especially as you must have selected the best possible vintage point to shot it. Excellent sharpness, vibrant color hues and superb DOF. Well done
mkamionka (34685) 2011-03-02 1:15
wow, this is a very impressive one. Excellent POV contributed to a perfect composition. I like very much the symmetry and there are so many interesting lines here! The motif of the road in the center is great.
kordinator (20455) 2011-03-02 2:33
Good idea,very well realized.
Nice motive,lovely bridge.
Lovely colors ana fine light.
I like exposure and sharpness.
Excellent texture and high point of view.
mesutilgim (92436) 2011-03-05 15:17
Wonderfull capture ! Perfect pov and very good graphism.
TFS and have a nice weekend
Royaldevon (36185) 2011-03-06 3:12
Your symmetrical composition certainly emphasises the geometric pattern, Craig, and it emphasises the repetition of lines. The cars and the lights become the only transient part of you shot. I love how the early morning light has gilded the cables.
It might be interesting to capture it at different times, to show the effects of the light and shadows.
Have a good Sunday,
sacavem (18620) 2011-03-06 9:44
A wonderful pov seems almost a cinematic photo. The illusion created by the people is just fantastic.Excellent composition, very nice colours, and sharpness.
s_lush (16134) 2011-03-07 1:22
Wow! Your pictures keep astonishing me with the incredible combinations of beautiful lines, forms, lights and shadows. This one is a masterpiece indeed. How have you managed finding such a good point of view and such a right moment for capturing!? A simply brilliant job!
sevy (58) 2011-03-07 1:48
I discover this photo only now, but it is very good. Especially for the composition playing with the X of the birdge pilars.
Moreover, there is a nice contrast of colors between gold and blue tones.
josepmarin (58325) 2011-03-07 3:00
a spectacular flat perspective of this impressive bridge, created by the tele lens, with the added value of the effect of the first beams of the sunrise on its cable wires, which bathe them with a few golden warm and attractive tonalities.
The symmetry and the geometry of the composition are magnificent.
It is a beautiful work, my friend.
paninho (2931) 2011-03-07 3:53
Très bien observé cette perspective du pont, avec ce cadrage très original! La lumière dans l'ombre très bien maîtrisée!
SWEETFREEDOM (24406) 2011-03-07 6:07
great p.o.v. and bridge, very good simmetry and light management.
PJE (20758) 2011-03-07 16:17
Hello Craig. You are too kind to include me in your comments for this posting. As far as I see it the bridge you were standing on is open access to anyone and especially any photographer. I see your timing was planned for the morning sunrise to lighten up the cables. This is always a plus, but the challenges are usually low lighting and as I experienced the need to raise up the ISO to capture the setting with a longer depth of field. Nice results seen here Craig...I like it. Were there any cops there when you took this shot. When I was there the radar was out looking for speeders and across the road a car was being impounded. Thanks.
cagla (4244) 2011-03-08 4:41
Hi Craig, this is my favorite in your last uploads,a very careful pov, wonderful framing and exposure time, the best lights of the day, and... I simply loved it, nothing to say more. Conratulations.
ricochet (9696) 2011-03-08 8:03
Wow!!! Fantastic point of view! The perspective is superb, a beautiful light and what I particularly like is that the bridge stands out perfectly from the bottom! Congrats for this great work!
Have a nice day
Longroute (19396) 2011-03-08 8:06
Hummmm... what a strong visual impact!
This kind of bridges offer unique chances to the photographer for such wonderful perspective compressed by the tele lens. A classic view, I should say, and one which never fails to please the eye and keep us glued to the monitor! Really well framed and captured, I love the warm light and colours. A great shot in my view.
serp2000 (43112) 2011-03-10 5:56
Outstanding composition! Excellent graphism and impressive saturations. The sharpness is perfect.
danyy (0) 2011-03-11 0:14
quillo (11850) 2011-03-13 8:38
Excellent picture, the light, the contrasts and the depth do of this work a vision '3D', I like very much the POV from above and like the curvature of the bridge is warned ... a work of teacher.
kiks (11785) 2011-03-18 8:39
i sure like this composition. the sun make the cables look like gold and that contrast so well with the green. Very well done the symetrie. But where were you to take this image?
Robert1969 (7160) 2011-04-04 10:29
Nice symmetry in the photo.
You've chosen a good choice, it creates a lot of depth in the photo.
Good lighting and color.
B&W would also be nice, it gets a bit of a Thirties atmosphere (this
is no improvement, but an option).
magalik (6103) 2011-04-07 13:28
These yellow cables make really the difference according to me. They make this bridge unusual. I imagine that the inhabitants of Vancouver would be surprised to see their bridge colored like this. Photography allows to see wonders of nature like this one. Very nice shot, well framed.
Have a good day.
gmg (4202) 2011-05-02 8:54
I like your architecture shots, but I find this one absolutely stunning: great use of tele, with nice composition and good colours; the POV it's absolutely good.
