Photographer’s Note

The Niagara Peninsula is a fertile strip of land in southern Ontario on the shore of Lake Ontario. For centuries it was well known for its soft fruit orchards: peaches, cherries, apples, pears, strawberries, plums, etc. In recent years it has become less economical to grow these table and preserve fruits, so many of the farmers are tearing out their orchards and converting them to vinyards. Niagara Peninsula wine cellars are gaining a reputation for their quality wines. This is one of the new vinyards on the top of the Niagara Escarpment. Lake Ontario is visible in the background.

It was a very clear day in May, we can see across the lake to the shadow of the city of Toronto, just barely visible at the top.
