A sunny afternoon at Burnaby Lake Regional Park in Burnaby near Vancouver, Canada
About this photo: On a wonderful sunny afternoon on one of my days off in March I decided to go for a walk at Burnaby Lake Regional Park which is only about 5 minutes driving from our place. It was a beautiful bright afternoon and the sun was getting a bit lower already helping with the colours in this scene.
The shot was taken from the wooden walkway on the water looking East. I liked the bright coloured grass leading to the view of the buildings which are near Lougheed Mall in Burnaby and the mountains in the distance. Th

Some information on Burnaby Lake Regional Park: Burnaby Lake Regional park is located in the city of Burnaby which is a part of the Greater Vancouver area and about 5 minutes driving from my place. This park includes a beautiful lake, a lot of hiking trails and is a great spot for bird watchers. Burnaby Lake Regional park is one of the best spots in the Vancouver area for bird watching, you may find great blue herons, bald eagles, belted kingfishers, osprey and the rare green heron and much more. In the summer time you can rent a canoe to have a closer look at the ducks, beavers and marsh-dwelling turtles.
There are 4 places where you park your car and start your walk. You can circle the lake for example which is about 19km (12mi). On the way you'll find the Wildlife Rescue Association or BC with a beautiful garden that's home to many wild birds. On the North side of the lake is the Nature House which is open in the summer for displays, talks and interpretive nature classes. The fresh air, outdoor exercise, city views, and plenty of wildlife of the two and four-legged variety make this a great spot to enjoy.
Burnaby Lake was created by a glacier 12,000 years ago and its shores were home to sawmills in the late 1800's. Now it is a beautiful protected area for us to enjoy. (Info from the Burnaby City Parks website).

Hi Ann;
It's great to see you back up and running on TrekEarth. I always look forward to seeing your shots from BC.
I have to be really honest with you on this shot Ann... The color and tonal levels seem to be good as does the composition, but I'm not sure what PP work you've done on it- maybe over sharpening? You seem to have given it all a bizarre pixelated look.
If you'd like, send me over the original (danielswalsh@mac.com) and I'll have a look and post as a workshop.
Cheers,
- Dan

Not sure if I am a fan of putting the items of interest totally in the upper top side of the frame. I would have liked to see a monster come up to the surface or a big duck with a napsack on his back. You know one of those transient mallards from Burnaby....nice shot Ann.

Hello Ann,
A nice shot.
I like the mix between warm braun - orange of the grass and the snowy mountain (maybe a bit to hidden ?) and also the mix between nature and city.
To resume I like this picture ;o)
Greetings.

Bonjour Ann,
l'alternance de couleurs chaudes et de bleus en bandes est graphiquement trsè interesssante et cette ville lumineuse semble jaillir de la végétation.
Beaucoup de profondeur avec ces magnifiques sommes à l'arrière plan.
Amicalement.
Daniel.

Hello Ann,
I like the clean layered composition, and the colour palette is attractive too!
I notice the bird cases by the waterside, I guess they are busy occupied by now...
I admire the snow-capped mountains in the back but then this is the month of March!
Greetings,

Hi Ann, another fantastic panorama from you. I love how the buildings seem completely overtaken by the wilderness - I wish it were so everywhere. The light here is beautiful and your image is enviably sharp. Thanks for sharing and have a great week, Lisa

Dag Ann,
Groetjes,
Henk

Hi Ann
Those winter tones and hues can indeed produce a nice image. Of course a few snow capped mountains never hurt.
Well done.

Dag Ann,

Hello Ann,
A beautiful scene, the warm colors is so autumn like and the lake with some ripple pattern showing the motion of the wind level. good composition, and the intensity of the color may be a bit too strong and the pixellation is visible, not as smooth as your other shot. Overall still a very nice shot.

hi Ann,
I agree about the pixelation, but that has already been addressed. I do like the strong colours, but I'd change the balance of the composition - more space for the buildings and mountains, less space for the water in the foreground, which now feels quite empty compared with the busy upper part of the frame. just an idea :)
best,
Kristine

Hi Ann,
The reflections in the water are assets to the composition. The point of view is showing the different divisions in the composition, the lake, the trees, the high rise buildings, the mountains and the sky. The late afternoon light is enhancing the colors of the picture. Well done, have a nice day.
