My previous couple of shots were taken above the fog, looking down on the city and the forest, so this time I decided to show a photo from inside the fog. This was taken in Stanley Park in Vancouver, one of the largest urban parks in the world (1000 acres). There are a large number of facilities there, including an aquarium, swimming pool, cricket field, rugby field, rowing club, petting zoo, bandstand, beaches, and several lakes, but the majority of the park is still forest. It's a popular place for running, walking, bicycling or even laying around and getting a sun tan (although not on foggy days like this!).

well captured the light...
presence of the man has added life in the picture...

This may not be an extremely difficult picturee techcnically but I think it is one when it comes to be at the right place at the right moment. Your choice of vertical exposures suits it well, and the running person is caught at he best possible place.
Another winner - Friendly yours - Izzet

The sun is awsome. The picture would clearly not be as good without the walking person.

Those beams of light are really good. You have created a very atmospheric image. Good choice with the portrait format.
James_mcg (196) 2009-02-08 10:48
What a great shot here mate! Excellent light, shadows and capture. The person running in the photo really makes the shot, giving it a real feel of hight and depth in relation to the the trees.

Very nice sun light radiation image, and having the person caressed by the sun rays makes the whole image a class better.
Have a nice sunday JY

delkoo (68) 2009-02-08 23:54
a fabulous catch of the light painting the landscape, it couldn't have been better framed with the runner in full glory in the rays of the sun.

you know, there is a lot of photos with trees and light effect, but not so much as successful as this one, great light and fog combination, great occasion,
well done about the framing
jjcordier (76850) 2009-02-09 5:48
Ces rayons de soleil à travers les arbres ça fait toujours son effet mais quand, en plus, il y a juste où il faut le jogger, c'est carrément super!
Dyerco (10185) 2009-02-09 7:00
Great shot Alvin
I think it was important to have the person as a focal point. It is the crowning touch to this image.
andante (7092) 2009-02-09 7:11
Alvin, looking at this image is like having a religious experience! Mind blowing!
josepmarin (57801) 2009-02-09 10:03
a great shot here. I like the nice effect of the sunbeams that enter across the trees, radiating the light of an almost mystical way and creating a few elegant shades in the path.
The inclusion of the runner in the framing is a dynamic detail and that gives more quality to the image.
A superb work, my friend.

I tried this often ,but allways failed....
You captured these sunrays perfect and the composition with this person at the perfect position is excellent.
ChrisJ (99180) 2009-02-09 19:16
Superb backlighting through the trees, with the path adding nice lead in lines. Good sharpness & framing. Tfs!

I love these kind of photos so much that every time I see one I say to myself: "Is this year that I am going to dive into the woods to get one like this". I have tried it once and know how difficult is to get this result. At least, I couldn't... Your exposure is perfect and so is the inclusion of the runner. I guess nothing new in my comment... :)

after received a critique by you, I read your profile, and I have to say that I completely agree on the things that you say. I, personally, like portraits and reportage, and never loved nature and panoramas. Following some friends on TE I saw an opportuinity to learn something on this kind of pictures. Now is less than a month that I am a member and I starting to appreciate this particular Photography. Sometimes we do not like something, because we are not able to manage them. Is a way to improve, also giving critiques. Hope we have the opportunity to share frequently our experiences.
Very nice composition, well managed, interesting and intense.
I read you also use the D700, and now you are using the D200. I got the D80 for a couple of years, with very good results, and now use the D300. I am asking what about the D700.
Benedetto. Thanks for sharing.

I like it alot - have tried shots like this with little success, so your perspective means alot to me. Very well seen and the light beams are quite amazing. Well done and TFS. Gerald

What beautiful reflacted light beams created by the dense fog and thick rain forest trees.
Your jogger adds very effective scale to this beautiful vertical presentation that is seen in great clarity and sharpness.
marietom (34607) 2009-02-11 10:31
wouaw, quelle lumière, c'est une magnifique composition !
toni_al (15875) 2009-02-14 6:23

pboehringer (770) 2009-03-05 9:36
I'm waiting to have such a moment in front of my lenses, but that never will happen in the more then bone dry California. This image isn't just about these sunrays but also the play with the person jogging by. Excellent!
azizbilgili (2111) 2009-06-03 7:58
Excellent play on shadows and beams of light through the fog.
mayjayne (3497) 2013-02-23 2:39
I have had moments when I have seen rays of sunshine coming through and falling on an object, but never have I captured it such that the outcome is as found here. The sun rays are wonderfully distributed with just the right exposure and light management, that you do not lose the hazy atmosphere. Excellent technique !
Mary (814) 2013-10-18 14:45
Amazing how you catch the light in this photo, and the reality of the scene that your photo expresses! I found myself feeling the cold of the day and the hapiness of the sun light that cames inside the forest.
Very nice, congratulations!
