Photographer’s Note

Middle Joffre Lake, near Pemberton in the Coast Mountains of British Columbia. There are three Joffre lakes, each one with magnificent views of the mountains behind. Here we see Slalok Mountain, with the Stonecrop Glacier at its top. A bit of trivia: the fallen tree in the foreground is visible in Google Earth.

This is a joint effort with my partner Ros. She took the photo with a Panasonic Lumix FZ50 camera, and I did the post processing in Photoshop. This involved applying a contrast mask to lighten up the shadows (which were very dark) and darken the brightest parts of the clouds and ice, and some sharpening and adjustment of the saturation.

I can just say Wow!!!! Great color combination and a perfect shot. What I like most in this photo is the position of mountain and the slight yellow color of the alpine tree

Dear Vincent and Ros,
Personally, I like this image a lot. Compositionally, it breaks up into distinct thirds, top-middle-lower, which is appealing to the eye. There is a circular or bowl effect brought about visually by the diminishing height of the topography in which the lake lays. Probably a cirque glacial lake indeed. Good post-processing mastery. The Lumix FZ50 was one of the cameras I considered in evaluating a better digital camera. Appears it would have been a good choice. Compliments to the photographer for capturing a good scene.

Hi Vincent,

Briliant colors of the water and a well chosen PoV. You've got a fait bit to see in the frame and the fallen tree's is just one of many points of interest.

It's always nice to see something a bit different posted on TE, and this is definitely a bit different. I've never had the privilege of going to the Joffre Lakes, but I've heard it's a beautiful area. Love that composition, and you got some nice light as well.
