The story of Smokey Bear goes back to 1942 when the American War Advertising Council established a national forest fire prevention campaign.
In 1945 the Forest Service developed it own unique animated character, a brown bear in official costume. He was named ‘Smokey’.
Smokey Bear became a very popular symbol when efforts to prevent careless wildfires expanded after the war. The 1947 campaign introduced the still-familiar slogan ‘Only You Can Prevent Forest Fires’.
Here a young boy admires Smokey Bear as it towers over him.

When travelling through national parks, I have seen planty of Smokey Bear sign reminding us about the fire prevention and the condition of the fire danger, but I didn't know about the story of how it come about til now that I read your note. Very cool shot, the presence of the boy give nice comparition of the size, although the house alone would have give a good idea, but with a person right in front of it to campare it to is impressive and I can see he is thinking, one day I will grow to be this big :)
Happy New Year to you and Andre.
