Yes, its a scene you've all seen before but I couldn't help myself.
I went down to this area early in the morning looking for autumn colors, but when i noticed the boat floating in the water I had to stop and take a few photos here.
BC Place Stadium in the background has a new roof. If you remember some of my older photos from here the roof was a bubble-like-globe look. But the roof ripped and tore in half during a severe wind storm about 3 years ago.
Now BC Place Stadium has a new high tech retractable roof, and it looks alot better too. If you look at the MAP VIEW, its really funny because you can actually see the old bubble roof. I guess the Map view photo is a bit dated.
I'll add a WS photo with another view
Have a great day, and thanks for looking.

Very good soft lights ambiance with an interesting presence of the boat

The light was ideal to capture this peaceful morning scene. The shot is well composed making good use of the foreground boat as a pointer toward the stadium. Lovely reflections complemented by good colours and sharpness.

your title captures well the mood of the scene.
And apart from the mood it´s really superb architectural shot!
It´s a great juxtaposition of this futuristic looking Stadium and the condos in the BG.
So for me I think no matter how often you´ll present pictures like this from your Vancouver I´ll be everytime the same fascinated by the views and its modern architecture.
Btw.I miss this kind of architecture-skyscrapers and modern buildings. After Malta and Santorini I need a change:)Maybe Dubai in winter?:)

this is one of the joys of early morning photography and also how sometimes the mission changes and you come away with a shot that is so worthwhile and beautiful. The image I posted today was my last one of the day on my mission yesterday to capture some autumn colours, and also photograph the ruined priory that sits next to the one still standing. This reminded me of the London Olympic Stadium but of course the style and setting is completely different. I love the soft light here and the reflections, but it is the little splash of colour on the boat that makes it work and gives it impact. Love it!

that stadium looks superb reflected like this, and to my strange imagination reminds me a little of a gigantic spider crawling over the main structure, or perhaps an alien monster. Either way, I had spider based nightmares last night, so perhaps that is swaying my thoughts today. The little boat is excellent too, looks like a character from a children's TV show!
All the best

Pas une ride sur l'eau calme . Les bateaux semblent flotter dans les airs.Le stade est superbe et offre un arrière plan des plus imposants. Vancouver est une ville magnifique quand il fait beau.

I understand why you had to stop here. The boat's position, shape and colors makes it sort of leap out of the surroundings of light grey stadium and highrise buildings. The perfect reflections also make the photo very enjoyable.

Perfect lighting giving great reflections on the water of this spectacular stadium. I love the design and the architecture of this stadium its as If a giant flying saucer has just landed in this area. The little blue and red boat is a real eye catcher and well positioned within the scene.
All the best,

You have given us a fine pair of photographs here and, looking at your very helpful map (if I've read it correctly), it appears as though you've taken these pictures from the Seaside Bicycle Route.
I like both pictures but the light in your main one is simply sublime. Well worth the early rise from the scratcher to get out and capture this one!
Gorgeous light and colours, fabulous reflections on the calm water, spot-on exposure and exquisite details and sharpness.

Ce quartier de Vancouver est vraiment une mine d'or pour un photographe comme toi! Très bonne composition avec de jolis reflets créés par cette lumière douce. J'aime aussi la version plus large.

Hi Craig, this architechture remember me a lot of the old Turin stadium, nice composition whit bright details and great reflections,i like it! About your choice of May-June for your greek trip,i thinks that it's better to go there in September, the sea water is too warm...hehe...Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

Hi Craig - I'm a bit behind with my critiquing but I didn't want to miss this one as the atmosphere is so lovely. Quiet and peaceful your title is most suitable and in spite of this being an urban subject the wonder of an early morning is not lost. Lovely reflections and a fabulous light make this a winner in my book. Warm regards Rosemary
PS. What sports are played in this stadium? We went to see a basket ball match in Vancouver but I haven't a clue where the venue was.

I love the atmosphere of sunny mornings. This is perfect, you've taken quite a perfect scene.
Enjoy the day.

The solitary red striped blue and white boat moored in the fg makes this shot then the eye is drawn to the secondary bg boat bathed in a warm golden light of the morning. The bg stadium tries to steal the show but fails imho. Good reflections and sharpness. Tfs!

I find myself returning to familiar places to photograph them; yet a different season, a different time of day, can make the photograph completely different.
I do recognise this place (though I've never been here). The early morning light has created soft hues on the building which reflect with a warm ambience. The boat is much stronger; its colours are stronger and its position is strong. It really is the focal star and acts as a good lead to the pleasant scene beyond.
My warm regards,

Boat add savor of composition.
delpeoples (56084) 2013-11-08 4:43
Ah why not, when the light's this good, you could show me a hundred shots of this place. I love the glassy reflections and the crisp colours. The symmetrical reflections are a delight and the boat on the angle is the icing on the cake.
Great shot, have a happy weekend
pierrefonds (61954) 2013-11-13 15:26
The reflections on the water are assets to the composition. The point of view is showing the détails and colors of the architecture of the BC Place Stadium. The good luminosity is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.
