Going back to one of my favorite places once again - i can't help it! :)
As you may know already, this is Stanley Park in Vancouver. The view has been photographed to death, and i'm apart of that, but it keeps me happy :)
It was taken early in the morning, just after morning Blue Hour on a crisp cold winter's day.
When you photograph a location so many times, you really get to understand it. For example, usually these Sails on the left are in color - reds, blues, yellows, greens and whites. But depending on the time of day they are Shut Off - I knew I had to get here early enough, but i was late! But in the end i liked how the Chevron sign came to life in contrast to the greys of the buildings.
Composition is SO important to me, i try to take notice of all the little things. I made an effort to position myself so that all 10 of the sails can be viewed, so that they are not overlapping eachother.
Hope you enjoy it

A well presented urban panorama with a particular mood to it. The lights add a splash of colour and help warm up the wintry atmosphere. Very good sharpness.

This reminds me of two visits to Vancouver and the wonderful urban landscapes that we enjoyed. Those sails are so appealing. This has been very well composed and interesting light. The dark clouds at the top of the picture hold the picture in - excellent.
Best wishes, Ann

Your perseverance with your composition here has certainly paid off. Golly, we really do have so much in common - I can be incredibly obsessive at times too!
But your meticulous attention to detail has delivered the goods with this one. Lovely composition, perfect exposure, lovely light and colours and, as always, exquisite sharpness and detail.

Hi Craig, careful composition indeed, we can see all 10 sails. I wouldn't probably think anbout it. It is postcard but waht quality. it is so sharp and colours are fantastic, not too dark for me. Excellent photowork.

A delightful pano in great light and with such a lot of enticing urban detail! The horizonal layers and the careful framing and exporsure (very well managed, all those different light sources) make it rock. I like it a lot!
Interesting note too - and I couldn't agree more about site knowledge and attention to detal while preparing to frame.
Best regards from Rotterdam

A very good panoramic crop for this one, leaving just the right amount of dark cloud near the top edge, and water down below. I think the exposure of the tiny lights and the Chevron sign and building is superb. Pity about the sails' lights, I guess, but the detail you've captured in them by considering your viewpoint, and all over the shot, is outstanding. I love the sheen on the water!

no wonder - I would be a frequent guest there as well. This place is really photogenic, alternatively these maybe your photo skills which show it in a very attractive way.
Here you also captured an amazing sky which adds an extraordinary atmosphere. Beautiful light, I like it very much.
Answering your question: it seems I will move to England soon :)

First of all, the Stanley Park seems to be inexhaustible as source of great scenes and views. A very nice postcard from VC. I like how the grey watersurface creates kind of odd reflections, and yes, the sign and the light from the tower in the bg provides a great contrast to the dominating grey. Thanks for sharing this one:) Have a nice week.
Best regards, Erling

This place is one of my dreams, come to Vancouver to see the city after visiting the beautiful landscapes of British Columbia.
The picture is superb with a perspective esplédida full of contrasts. The dim lighting adds a very intimate atmosphere. Bravo!

It's great to have a passion and your enthusiasm can certainly infect others.
This is a really well presented shot. Your care has allowed the viewers to enjoy the details of this early morning shot with great clarity. With the silver sky, the soft lights, and the lifting clouds, the city feels to be stretching, yawning and waking to a new day.
Fine thirds composition and sharp details.
Have a good day,

The 10 sails, just saw and critique in TE:"CLIC" photo's, and as you noted this is an importent part in the whole area fabulous skyline.
Fine dusk scenery, with the Chevron sign lightened and stands-out, as well with the tower on BG.
Big city in calm ambiance.
ChrisJ (86902) 2012-02-03 2:52
Good decision to use a wide angled panoramic format here. Excellent sharpness with nice reflections. I like the repetition of the sails at left. Tfs!

fine colors too
gildasjan (38228) 2012-02-04 3:47
Tout est bien cadré dans ce format panoramique et ici les quelques parties chaudes de l'image équilibrent parfaitement la dominante bleue de cette réalisation.
Robert1969 (6238) 2012-02-07 22:43
A beautiful skyline..
The panorama makes the picture extra wide.
The picture has a beautiful composition
and it has a beautiful light management.
sevy (13273) 2012-02-09 1:24
I like a lot the blue mood of this urbanscape. It is also well balanced in this panoramic crop and the clouds are nicely closing the loop, bringing back the look towards the buildings line.
steph (398) 2012-03-19 11:16
Very good postcard, but frankly, very good picture.
Excellent proportions and great colors. Nothing is missing !
InasiaJones (29347) 2012-04-03 19:46
A very nice one here, slick and moody, with a metallic feeling, provided by the steel blue dominant colour. I like the way the Vancouver Lookout tower stands out with its warm light.
The format of the frame suits your photo efficiently.
