Photographer's Note
A shot of Victoria Harbour on the southern end of Vancouver Island. The facade of the Empress Hotel is covered in red ivy. I liked the reflections, repetition of the yachts & the diagonal promenade, that added dynamism.
"The Fairmont Empress (most commonly known as The Empress) is one of the oldest and most famous hotels in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Located on Government Street facing the Inner Harbour, the Empress has become an iconic symbol for the city itself. The Edwardian, château-style hotel was designed by Francis Rattenbury for Canadian Pacific Hotels as a terminus hotel for Canadian Pacific's steamship line, whose main terminal was just a block away.[1] The hotel was to serve businesspeople and visitors to Victoria, but later as Canadian Pacific ceased its passenger services to the city, the hotel was successfully remarketed as a resort to tourists. Victoria emerged as a tourist destination beginning in the mid-to-late 1920s.
The hotel was built between 1904 and 1908, opening for service in that year. Additional wings were added between 1909 and 1914, and in 1928. During this time, The Empress (as it was known then) played hostess to kings, queens, movie stars and many famous people. In 1919, Edward, Prince of Wales waltzed into the dawn in its Crystal Ballroom - an event considered by Victorians to be of such importance that almost 50 years later, the obituaries of elderly ladies would appear under headlines such as, 'Mrs. Thornley-Hall Dies. Prince of Wales Singled Her Out.' In the 1930s, Shirley Temple arrived accompanied by her parents amid rumours that she had fled from California because of kidnapping threats, a story borne from the presence of two huge bodyguards who took the room opposite hers and always left their door open."

Bonjour mon ami,
une très belle photo urbaine, pleine de couleurs et qui me rappelle étrangement la ville de Heuchatel en Suisse, beaucoup de similitudes.
Cette façade rouge en arrière plan ressort très bien.
Mes amitiés.
Daniel.

Hi Chris,
Oh yes this is a very well known scene for me from Victoria's Harbour.I have the same POV but in different season. The colours of the plants that spread on the walls of Fairmont Empress make it marvellous.

Hello Chris,
A well balanced composition captured from a well chosen point of view. The hotel looks a splendid piece of Edwardian architecture beautiful enhanced by the Virginia creeper. Pleasing natural colours and excellent sharpness.

It seems to be such a pleasant and beautiful place!
The picture is very attractive: sharpness, exposure, dof, pov, colors, horizontal and rectangular format and composition are all excellent!
I love the reflections and the texture on the water surface!
I also find pretty the architectural details in the bg!

Hi Chris,
A lovely place and a good memory for me, good angle to have an interesting perspective and depth and beautiful reflection on water with these red leaves on the frontage of this famous hotel.

Hi Chris.
I like the colours of the hotel. In my opinion the only pity is that is too far to apreciate the reflections but it was a nice idea anyway.
Well done!

Hi Chris,
The reflections pn the water of the Victoria harbour are assets to the composition. The sailboat masts have a graphical effect. The point of view is allowing me to see the details and colors of the Empress hotel. The good luminosity has a good effect on the colors. Have a nice day.
