In the Fraser Valley where I live there are many cows on dairy farms. I stopped along the side of the road one day this summer and just by sitting along the edge of the fence the curious cows come to check me out. I was trying to capture the sky exposure above and a decent exposure on the black cows as well. Any suggestions?

Although the sky is noisy I really like this photo. The cows approach to you is great, looking straight at the camera.
I would like to see their faces a little lighten so that we could see their features a little clearer.
Just love their earings

I like the composition of this picture. But there is too much noise! I did a workshop to obtain a better result

Nice shot, it looks like you increased the saturation lots to make up for the dark cows. Interesting out of this world effect!
For next time, I would suggest simply exposing the shot for the sky, then using the flash to illuminate the foreground (cows). Most of the time this works, but if the subject is too far away, the flash wont reach them, and it doesn't work. It looks like the cows are close enough that it would have worked here.

good compo i really like the cows looking at the camera, i agree with mike a flash to show the cows face might work but am afraid it might darken the background bacause of the sun light so maybe playing around with the shutter speed and aparture will do. always try experimenting am sure you will get it next time....rgds
