Photographer’s Note
I was out in early April last year trying out my new 70-200 F2.8 L glass lens and I spotted this fir tree growing behind a group of trees that are part of a planting by the Dept of Agriculture. It looked out of place somehow. The BG is Mt. Cheam (pronounced Sheeam). If you are wondering why the high ISO and F4 aperture, I was shooting some birds previously and wanted to stop the action and as usual I forgot to change my settings.
Cheers

Perfect in many senses. The composition il already very good, with a perfect use of the zoom.
Then this high tree over the others makes the picture special.

Interesting how your mistaken exposure produced an image that you probably didn't forsee with the background mountain well out of focus. The light on the foreground trees is wonderful.

Hi Phil,
Interesting perspective by that new lens of yours, and I'm relieved not being the only one that forgets to re-set the camera now and again. Nice work and TFs. Gerald

Hi Phil!
Those trees look like the same except the taller one on the right. The mountain in the background is quite interesting. I like the effect that gives the zoom.
Best regards
Denis!

Bonsoir,
belle photo de cette vue superbe, cet allignement d' arbre, cet arbre seul qui dépasse les autres et cette montagne légèrement brumeuse en arrière plan qui donne une bonne profondeur de champ a votre photo.

Hi Phil,
Uniqe view of these newly planted trees with the one fir rising in the back.
Love the muted high mountain backdrop even if you didn't plan for it is gives this image a nice twist.

Hi, Phil -
In computers we would say: "That's not a bug; it's a feature!" In other words, never admit a mistake. ;-) Especially when it turns out well. The short DOF does indeed concentrate our attention on the fg, and is deep enough to include the pine tree ("ugly duckling" is what comes to mind). The soft bg thus works well here.
Best,
Dan

Hello Phil,
The unusual composition is a genuine eye catcher. The snow covered mountains in the background appear as if they are floating just above the trees beginning to take on a new mantle of foliage. The Canon 40D is a superb camera, and you have used it to its best. That single scrubby pine sticking above the young, clearly planted trees makes a good focal point, especially being located around 1/3 from one side.
Warm regards,
Bulent

Hi Phil. Impressive vertical format with a warm foreground and a cool upper half. The two stitched together by the dark form of the pine. Creative piece. Regards. Klaudio.
