Photographer’s Note

Our club did a field trip tp Manning Park which is about a 1.5 to 2 hour drive along Highway 1 then Highway 3 from where I live. We then drove to the top of the mountain where we found over 30 varieties of wildflowers in bloom. Note the brown patches. Our forests are under seige from both the Spruce Budworm and the Pine Beetle. They are native to the area but the warmer winters in the last few years have allowed the larvae to survive the winter and thrive on the forest in the spring and summer.

I like the different layers here, from the gree foreground to the hazy hilly and finally mountains.
you should just let some free space on top of them.

I've always thought that the pine beetle seige has added a unique aesthetic quality to the forest. The subtle interplay between reds, browns, greens and greys is in its own way beautiful, and your photo here highlights very much with textures and patterns it adds to the forest, especially with the hills and light dappled effect of the clouds above. :)

Then, of course, I remember that countless millions of trees are now dead. :(

Even so, we can still enjoy your photo, which is excellently composed.

Hi Phil,
Ah those Canadian Mountains, I can get vertigo just driving down their long sweeps, let alone skiing them. Your photo captures their endless majesty well. The dying trees are a great tragedy around here as well. The wildflowers sound wonderful.

Very dramatic scenery Phil. The foreground slope looks far too steep to walk on. You would definitely need the spirit level on the tripod for this one. You chose an excellent POV to show the way the mountains recede to the horizon. You had wonderful light for some good contrasts too.

Hello Phil! Impressive scenery, what a wild beautiful place. Love the inclusion of the steep hill on the side, very good move, I like this. Wonderful the rolling hills with the trees all over ending in the far distance with the high mountains with the snow tops showing the altitude of these mountains, at least we can guess. Hi Phil,
Love the warm light across the gently rolling mountains that are layered so beautifully towards the distant snow capped peaks.
The lush green foreground hillside makes a very effective lead-in to this fine alpine scene.

Beautiful landscape. You have a really good POV. Last summer we were in this area. It was very interesting to see the beautiful alpine wildflowers and the row of the nice big mountains. We were in the same time.
