Wiwaxy Peaks, seen over Lake O'Hara in Yoho National Park. This was taken in September, on what was supposed to be a late fall camping trip. It turned out to be an early winter camping trip, as we got hit with cold weather and snow. One great thing about that was that since it was the first snow of the year, the lake was still not frozen and you could still get some really good reflections. I like shooting in the snow because everything is so easy. Who needs a tripod when you can get 1/250 second and f11 at ISO 100? Camping in a tent during -5C weather was a challenge, but when the views are like this, it's all worthwhile!

Alvin,
Excellent composition showing the mountains with their reflection in the lake. The reflection adds nice depth and balance to the shot. The lighting and colors are great with excellent sharpness and DOF.

Great phot, very good and strong colors, good sharpness and great dept of field, live the reflection in the water

Greetings
DzULA

Very beautiful picture, I like it and i lije the sharpness.

Such luck, the fresh snow on the trees looks super, but I also like the lake surface: reflections without compromising the visibilty of the rocks beneath the water.

Probably someone will see a tilted horizon, but this is an illusion created by a lake where the opposite shore has a natural curve. No adjustment needed!

Hello Alvin,
Fantastic shot, superb vivid colors and wonderful contrast, very good shrpness and depth of field, beautiful light and nice textures and details in the foreground,TFS.
Angela

Hi Alvin,

Stunning landscape with a great feeling of depth and dimension. The moment is absolutely fantastic, with fresh snow covering pines and mountains. Even some rocks in the water conveys this white magic touch.

Reflection is brilliant and I like the way it blends with the rocks in the foreground.

Cheers!

André

Hi Alvin
What a scene to wake up to. We had snow the one time we were up there but it had snowed about a week earlier so we didn't get that fresh snow on the trees. Great sharp clear shot with the colours only Lake O'Hara can provide.
Phil

Hi Alvin,
Well, yes,I took some photos from the same spot but the result is far from yours and I guess I can`t blame the weather for it:)
Crystal clear water, crystal clear view, perfect composition and great colors for the sky and the reflection.
Well done,Maestro!:)

Alvin
Encore une superbe photo où tu associes montagne et reflets dans l'eau. La petite couche de neige apporte le petit plus qui nous fait admirer sans réserve cette très belle image, techniquement impeccable.
Amicalement

Hi Alvin

A superb alpine scene, with good sharpness, & excellent colour. Wonderful reflections. Tfs!

Wow Alvin, this is so detailed it makes my eyes bleed! The light here is amazing. I love the fact that the refelected trees have a green tint that the actual trees don't display.
Your composition is excellent. How do you rate the lens? I bought the Tokina equivalent and so far I'm very happy with it.
Craig

Hi Alvin,
No polariser here? The blue sky seems a bit pushed, but i like that in American and Canadian landscapes. They bring extra contrast in an image and to me that's the way they should like.
Of course your composition is like always, flawless. The row of trees with a slight curve in them is wonderful, not to speak about the reflection, out of this world. Wondering how it will be in August.
Regards, Henk

Hi Alvin,
Ah a nice winter image is just what I need to raise my mood today back to work after a small break in the mountains, superb in dynamism, depth and image quality, I love it !
Have a nice day JY

Hi Alvin,
very nice shot, the framing and te reflexion are just great
didier

Hi Alvin,

A beautiful mountains scenery on the edge of lake O'Hara that received a bit of snow. The reflections in the water are an asset to the composition. The light brings out the colors. Well done, have a nice day.

Pierre

The photo has a 3d look to it. The cloud at the left is especially nice. Lots of texture and tonal range. Very nice.

La date de la photo montre un début d'automne, la photo elle montre l'hiver froid. Le spectacle est féérique, sous ces lumières parfaites et ces couleurs fortes.
Un niveau de détails qui montre si bien le givre posé sur les sapins.
Regards.
Daniel.

Hi Alvin
Superb landscape, colors, depthness and sharpness. I like the fg showing rocks in shallow water.

Ciao Alvin
wooow! great shot, really!!! clearness is very very good, but reflections are incredible...very well done!

Hello Alvin,

Another extraordinary composition from you, this lake is of unparalleled beauty and class. The dusting of snow on this very angular peak is unbelievable. I think that humanity would have a very difficult time trying to replicate such beauty; a photograph is the only thing that comes close. A shot like this, no matter how good the quality; will never fully give us the complete range of sensations. To really live it, you have to be there and smell the clear air and brave the cold temperatures. Remarkable, Canada has some of, if not the best scenery on the planet.

Matt

Alvin,
A particularly brittle looking shot! Everything looks ready to shatter here.
Yes, but don't try that "no tripod" thing in a Welsh wood! :)
Regards
Colin

Bonjour Alvin,

Ce reflet est superbe, les roches fond un beau premier plan et cette montagne élancée avec cette exposition parfaite est bien mise en valeur.
Bien vue.

Hello Alvin. Nice to see another wonderful winter setting from your Yoho collection. Excellent capture timing with the blue sky above and the fresh snowfall below. I couldn't agree more with your comments about the photo results you captured while enduring cold temps in tent life. And if you ever get chilled a little you can be thankful you didn't join the photographers who filmed The March of the Penguins...well unless you had a second pair of long johns!

Alvin,
you're note reminds me of a very similar experience up in the High Sierra last September. I was planning to have a nice night at 9,000 feet by a lake to have some early morning shots. Well, the night before it snowed and I ended up sleeping in the middle of the snow. The only difference was that I didn't have this outstanding view that you had and I had to use a tripod.
Really outstanding shot!
Peter

Hi Alvin, fascinating mountain landscape with splendid colors and fantastic reflections, good DOF and excellent sharpness, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hi Alvin
Another splendid mountain scene. I like the way the rocky outcrop in the lake seems to lead to the base of the mountain. The snow in the bottom corner gives good balance too.

Hello Alvin
Beau reflet avec un bon contraste.
Perso j'aime bien les cailloux du premier plan qui 'casse' la symétrie de l'image.
Have a nice day
Christophe

Brillient shot Alvin, the way the reflection covers onlt part of the surface is masterful.

Greg

The reflected moutain side serves as the perfect lead into this shot. The image is nice and crisp with wonderful colours. Beautiful.
Best wishes

Technically I can´t comment on this...it would be like throwing a glass of water to the sea...
This is classical, no new approch, but what the heck, it's a wonderfull photo.
Keep posting these Canadian gems...you'll have my support.
