Photographer's Note

The Inukshuk is a stacked rock in human form as created by the Inuit (Native) people of Canada's Artic.

The Inukshuk was used as a guidepost that provided direction across the vast horizons of the North. Over time, the Inukshuk has become a symbol of hope and friendship throughout Canada.

This Inukshuk monument is located at the summit of Whistler Mountain.

Very strange and interesting form! I like the way You have composed this cadre - background looks very beautiful, the scene is beautifully saturated and full of contrasts. The weather situation was really amazing. Very nice work!

I thought that maybe i would open this and not really feel able to comment - another Inukshuk after you've seen a few of them - you know - but i really like this image Dan - perhaps there is an emotional attachment to a place I haven't been but so much would have liked to but I also love the light on the mountains and the overall composition, colour and space within the image.......one day......

Well I didn't see anything like this on any of the other mountian tops I visited in Whistler area. None the less this is nicely framed in againest the clouds and mountian background. I remember when this logo came out in public. I for one am not a big fan of it but have grown to accept its design for the 2010 event. Nicely done Daniel!

Hey Dan,
I just came back from whistler about just over a month ago! And i was up there too! Did u take the ATVs up too? And i have a picture composed almost similar to this of yours. But my lighting conditions weren't as good and the clouds weren't so fluffy and beautiful.
Great colours, Saturation, Composition and Details.

Hey Dan,
At first I thought of Fernando Botero's famous huge 'inflated' monumental sculptures in Singapore. Fantastic viewpoint, the Inukshuk looks very monumental from the angle to chose. Lovely composition providing a clean view from the foreground to the beautiful mountainous landscape background. Wonderful exposure, sharpness and the colour is brilliant. I like the way the Inukshuk is positioned and how the blue sky looks and the clear white clouds around it just brightens that particular scene of the image...making it a picture perfect postcard!

Great shot Dan! I like the lighting in this one, with the inukshk being almost slihoetted against the sky, but still lots of detail there when you look at it. Great view of the surrounding area too, with some dramatic clouds. Well done!

Hello Dan! Very nicely done. Seems to be a flawless capture with equally good post-processing. I like the composition very much, but I also wonder if you took any closeups of the Inukshuk tightly cropped against that beautiful sky? Those might have been interesting to see as well.

I love whislter and have been to this spot a few times. Looks like a great day for the shot with bright blue sunny skies and white clouds. I think the photo would benefit from a human element for showing scale, though without one the statue looks a lot bigger than it really is..haha. Either way, nice shot.

And what decor,you were really lucky to have those broken clouds,and the play of light on the mountains.Very dynamic.Good idea of resisting the tentation of centering the statue.
