Vancouver is well known for it's glass towers, many of which have bright reflective surfaces. This one is almost like a mirror, so it reflects incredibly well. The city planners have banned dark glass from office buildings, thinking that it makes the city look too gloomy (or like 'Darth Vader'). In one case, the builder started using a colour of glass that was darker than the city wanted, so they made him switch to a lighter colour. Since it was too expensive to remove the dark glass they had already installed, the building now has two colours, dark on the bottom and light on the top - very strange!

Your photo has made me think about Pink Floyd's song, really it looks like a "stairway to heaven".
What well you have seen that this setting was going to give you a graphical result like that you have obtained, in a great geometric game of the glass fronts and with a few excellent reflections of the sky.
Very good light and perfect colors.
sarahnatalie (697) 2007-07-04 7:40
Very nice composition. I love the way you've captured the angles of the building this way. The strong blue sky with the clouds reflecting in the windows is also very effective. Well-spotted and well-shot!
vedra (0) 2007-07-04 7:42
Well chosen point of view, making the building appear so abstract to that extent it is hard to say what's real and what's reflected here. The clouds reflected in the glass facade underline this abstract component even more.
cherryripe (21033) 2007-07-04 9:06
Another pretty, graphic shot. It's true that lighter colours are more attractive and in this case make a great subjet. The sky and forms of the windows create an interesting effect. For fun I did a WS with a square format.
kensimage (8565) 2007-07-04 9:09
Another winner--the composition is perfect, and the sky is richly blue like an Yves Klein painting. It has an element of fantasy--can't quite tell at first which way is up and whether the "steps" are floating in the air. Very well done! Regards, Ken.

Hello Alvin, I really admire this series of yours. What a great idea. Wonderful blue colors mixed with white clouds reflecting in glass mirror towers. This one creates very interesting graphical effect. It might even convince me to go out there (it is above 48 C degrees here these days ) and search for one glass tower here... well, I probably would not have those clouds here.. Well done anyway. Lucie

Very nice photo. The windows-mirror of the towers creates an excellent composition. The colors and the POV are great.

nice capture of these glass buildings! You had the right weather for them - tey became a part of the sky!
Thank you for sharing!
(I loved so much Vancouver! I spent there 10 days some years ago : a perfect place to live there!)

spettacolare il riflesso del cielo sui palazzi.ottima la nitidezza dell'immagine.complimenti per la prospettiva ottima foto.
Angelillo (9374) 2007-07-04 11:56
Very clever shot. The composition is very interesting, according perfectly with the title. The reflections are of great quality, but mainly is your choise here that makes this beautiful shot. It seems a picture of impossible figures, amazing how the real and reflections are mixed here! Congratulations!
Fis2 (99794) 2007-07-04 12:41
Very interesting composition and frame. Wonderful reflections. Good colors and sharpness. Super effect! Congratulations!
chicken (1557) 2007-07-04 12:54
Very nice image. I like how the strict rectangular, but still interestingly arranged towers contrast with the fluffy, soft clouds in of the sky. The perfect reflection (especially its brightness) give the picture an almost unreal feeling.
luisafonso (862) 2007-07-04 13:38
As an architecture and sky lover I couldn't miss this one. What a striking work you have here Alvin. The graphic quality is quite evident, but the reflection work is indeed very effective to boost the creative character of the photo. Perfect contrast and sharpness. A winner.
jonathan_hart (21276) 2007-07-04 13:48
what a wonderful subject, really looks like a stairway to the sky, the reflections are making a strange illusion, excellent clarity, beautiful composition ;)

Fantastic perspective and great colours, clarity and reflexion!
Gerrit (52097) 2007-07-04 16:48
great mirror effect and the rotating works real good.
Floydian (30970) 2007-07-04 17:03
This one looks like the other one with the reflection. Here it is also very dynamic and the repeating patterns gives you even more depth...really excellent composed.
A strong and powerful image...great piece of work.
JPlumb (3159) 2007-07-04 19:20
Hi Alvin, very nice architectural shot on your part, almost an abstract the way it was done. You've picked up excellent lines in this one with very good colour. That sky is awesome. The reflections from the building just add to this.
gneufeld (15890) 2007-07-04 21:22
This is a very impressive and artistic capture. I really like the symmetry and the colors are absolutely stunning. Great work and thanks for sharing. Gerald

This is a spectacular POV and expressive shot. Its an excellent composition and superb theme. This is a splendid architecture photo.

You see to have a never ending potential of such views around you, on that one you get an excellent graphic dimension to combine with the reflection on the glass, it all looks so clean and sophsticated, I like it a lot.
Have a nice day,
pierrefonds (67601) 2007-07-05 4:13
A nice photo of the buildings giving the impression of steps and of the reflection of the sky in the windows. The photo has a good composition, sharpness and nice colors. Thanks for sharing.
cbrman (21675) 2007-07-05 4:27
Encore une très belle image très graphique que tu nous présentes là !
Ce batiment est très photogénique et le ciel dont tu as bénéficié est vraiment parfait pour ce genre de prise de vue !
delkoo (68) 2007-07-05 4:28
it couldn't have been better framed with solid lines going to the sky and satured colours.

Very well composed, the slope of the skyscrapers is very nice, but the reflections of the clouds in the glass walls are superb, very well composition too. TFS.
Have a nice day,
dkeus31 (27735) 2007-07-05 11:42
A nice geometrical composition with almost only lines and great refleciotns.
Ann75 (0) 2007-07-05 12:23
Wow, what a shot! Vancouver indeed has some amazing glass towers (my family was so impressed with that and they loved it). I love the angle you took this from...it looks like a stairway to heaven! Great POV with stunning colours and details of the building! Fantastic work, Alvin!
PS: Interesting note as well!
nwoehnl (122) 2007-07-05 12:30
These architectural reflection studies you made in downtown Vancouver have turned out very effective, Alvin. Graphically appealing and almost abstract, and of course you chose a fine day to benefit from the marvelous sky and the crisp reflections on the geometric surfaces. Nice angle on this one to convey the impression of heavenly stairs.
adores (45717) 2007-07-05 14:54
Great photo this one! I like the composition and those wonderful reflections on the buildings.Great shot with fantastic colours and sharpness!
cdmonson (5196) 2007-07-05 17:31
The great downtown shots just keep coming! This is one of the best so far--it really does look like stairs, but the question is which way are they leading? Great job.
capthaddock (28790) 2007-07-05 18:00
Hi Alvin - even if this one does not have the colour contrast of the gold one, the graphics are better, and the cloudplay is as dramatic as before. Good choice by the city planners, nearby Seattle is chock full of ugly black Darth Vaders. (One building is even nicknamed the Darth Vader building!)
jemaflor (98793) 2007-07-06 2:54
Excellent of course, great pov, good idea and a lovley effect with reflections, colours and light are top.
mpdre (1611) 2007-07-06 8:02
Very impressive image with so many reflections on this glass towers. I like the feeling of the clouds getting inside the building :) It is always nice to work with some clouds in your office :))
But what I think I like the most is the tilt of the image that really makes the building to look like the steps of a stair. Well seen!!!
feather (51130) 2007-07-06 8:14
You chose a very creative way to frmae this image with the zigzag diagonal which is almost perfectly across the miidle of the frame. It's such a graphic, almost abstract image and so appealing. Technically excellent
jmcl (14535) 2007-07-06 22:19
Wonderful graphical sky .. a beautiful and unique take on the skyscraper reflection theme.
keribar (43841) 2007-07-09 20:37
I am back now from a 10 day trip, but will leave again soon. I can spare a few moments this morning ( The Internet is too slow at night ) in order to look at some pictures in TE: This is how I found this incredible puzzle of light and geometric shapes. What impresses me very much is the fact that the reflections seem to penetrate the building which becomes tranparent.
Friendly regards - Izzet
mumek (20202) 2007-07-10 3:05

Belle image et en plus ça me fait plaisir de la faire monter a 100pt. je trouve le WS de nikki très bon, le format carré lui va assez bien.

Excellent image, nice composition and colors.
crhieatt (5347) 2007-07-16 9:08
Very interesting shot Alvin - as your title alludes, from left to right it reads like a glass staircase - which foxes the brain in the same way as those famouse Escher drawings. Indeed, it's easy to forget that these are real buildings, and not just a computer graphic.
Fun & fascinating.
Well seen and realised.
MikiM (1924) 2007-07-18 7:21
It's like a trickshot..
PLus your title was a very good choice I can imagine it as a glass stairway from left...
Excellent work as usual:)
AmiBe (6042) 2007-07-18 13:43
superb graphical shot, the composition is very well seen.
These buildings are like stairs to access the sky.
Good bi-color tones.
ArtLook (2348) 2007-08-06 14:05
Great blue sky with puffy clouds and clear reflections in windows of modern buildings. I like symmetry of the building here. Very well framed. Good shot, Bravo!
