Photographer’s Note
Winter sunset in Stanley Park. I was driving around after work one winter day, when it looked like there might be an interesting sunset. As usual, the colours appeared faster than I expected and I wasn't really ready, but I stopped in the first available spot, which was Ferguson Point in Stanley Park. I managed a few shots before the sky calmed down. This photo is scanned from a Fuji Velvia 100 slide. The colours are perhaps even more intense on the slide than it would have been if shot on digital. The colour is so intense that it looks blocked up in the red section on the left.

Hi Alvin, what beautiful colours you have captured here. Quite stunning. I like seeing the lights in teh boat on the water, and the silhouette of the tree in the foreground. Very well done, thank you.

I saw Stanley Park in June, and it was beautiful then, but this sunset is spectacular Alvin -- nice, crisp silhouette, wonderful winter reds and golds, and the boat in the right background adds interest, too. Did you use a tripod?

A beautiful shot Alvin. I love shooting Velvia, I haven't shot it for years though and probably should give it a shot again. It's too bad you weren't able to get to it sooner, I bet there would have been plenty other great ones to catch this day. Nice job.

Hi Alvin,
What a fabulous shot! The clarity is amazing for a scan. Are you still shooting with your Velvia? I can't match my 20D with my existing old Canon, but am thinking of buying a better Canon lens in order to retain the Velvia option. It certainly worked here. The foreground and water have just enough mass to keep the proportions right and the tree is perfectly proportioned and placed in the frame. I am also amazed at the lack of any real sky noise. A shot to be treasured. Congratulations.

What a marvellous sky. The colours are just holding at the very end of the day with a good tree silhouette as the main subject.

Hi Alvin - stunning sunset, every shade of colour between red orange and blue is visible, and the naked tree is a great bonus.

Wow! Awesome colours and the silhouette of the tree is both interesting and fills the less colourful upper part of the frame. The scattered lights add some life to the picture.

Hi Alvin
Thanks you for your critique. I choose to critique this one of yours because is very similar to mine in colours if not even better because of its dramacity. The composition is great. Silhouette of the tree makes this picture even more dramatic.

Wow Alvin these colours are fantastic!! I love how you have used the tree as a silhouette. I love how the red turns to blue through the sky.
Very well done!

This is indeed dramatic colors of sunset. The tree makes a nice foreground, but the colors are the ones stealing the show.

Hello Alvin
a beautiful sunset, the sky is very impressive. i like the tree on foreground that breaks the beautiful dullness of the scene. Nice exposure (i would try a longer but it's more easy with a digital camera !).
