The title says exactly what it is.
Its a 750 foot colored web, a piece of artwork, a sculpture.
Currently hanging over the city of Vancouver, it has everyone mesmorized. Lighting from the ground provides different colors, and these colors shift and change, moving like waves in water.
When standing underneath this 750 Web, the only thing missing seems to be the Spider who created it. Perhaps the spider will come out when it's least expected.
I'll post more photos in the days to come, but first is this abstract form. I guarantee the colors have not been saturated, and although i'm not a fan of modern art, this is certainly one of the coolest pieces i've ever seen.
thanks for looking

This is something quite different from you Craig and I like your presentation of the artwork. I did a search to see where the piece is situated and found the artist's website which has some good shots which explain the location. http://www.echelman.com/project/skies-painted-with-unnumbered-sparks/
Choosing to photograph the net at night has given you a fabulous dark backdrop which allows the sculpture to be isolated from the surrounding cityscape and we can enjoy the forms and colours. I look forward to seeing more of this series.

Your photo is a fine piece of artwork too. I really enjoyed viewing this piece of sculpture (installation? ) from your POV :-) which is excellent. The framing along with the superbly brought out colours makes this a visual treat.
Thanks for sharing and have a great Sunday.

Hello Craig ,
An unusual picture in your gallery . But a beautiful one . I like the contrast of the vivid colors with the black BG .
Well captured .
chrislo (4097) 2014-03-16 2:22
At first glance, I thought this was a rainbow-coloured hammock ! Well, this is quite an original piece of artwork and you have captured this in lovely light. The artist's three-dimensional work is very nicely showing on this picture and stands out beautifully against the dark night. Lovely colours and perfect exposure. Well done.

It's surprising that we call this sort of work sculpture, nowadays, for it looks like a gigantic piece of fabric, like the safety net of a trapeze artist.
I am not decrying its beauty or its amazing jaw-dropping, visual effect, just its terminology. I'm sure your decision to photograph it an night was a good one, for the black sky creates the perfect, non- distracting background against which these colour, patterns and lines have an outstanding appearance. You have taken great care with the composition, too!
Have a great day,

Une installation colorée que tu as bien mise en images (j'attends les versions avec les bâtiments en arrière plan!)

A most unusual and rather beautiful piece of monumental art. I like how you have framed the shot and the play of light across the web. Superb colours and detail. Have a great Sunday.
holmertz (54895) 2014-03-16 3:34
I think this is a work of art created by two persons almost equally: the artist who designed and created the web and the lighting, and you who found this angle and contrasted the web with the pitch black background. A great idea from the start and throughout the process.
timecapturer (49288) 2014-03-16 3:42
going all arty on us now are you? Well I love it! Your crop and compositional expertise here is just perfect at making this amazing artwork come to life. I love the supporting wires emanating from the lower corners of the frame and of course the black background which accentuates the colours so effectively. Excellent imagery!
Have an enjoyable Sunday - B.

This is very cool, and a brilliant idea to hang it over the city. It kind of looks like a tv station test card that has melted and took to the air. Creative and beautiful piece, and your capture of it is really mysterious.
And if this is a 750 web, I kind of hope that the spider never does make an appearance. Cool modern art shot. Like you, I don't really appreciate modern art too much (I just don't get it) but I can very much appreciate this one

Les responsables des villes vont de plus en plus loin pour faire parler de leur ville. Ici, ils ont réussi avec quelque chose d'original et de coloré pour le plaisir des photographes.
ACL1978 (7511) 2014-03-16 6:49
Wow, Craig, you're really pushing some boundaries here... really cool shot that looks like a computer animated graphic more than it does a net, thanks to the black background and the brightness of the colors, as though the net is illuminating itself. Fantastic capture. I can't wait to see a wider view of this, it looks really amazing. Thanks!
worldcitizen (8858) 2014-03-16 8:59
This is beautiful: the strong colors contrasted with the dark background, and the play of light as it hits a certain spot of the web. The artwork is intriguing, and your capture and presentation are great! I also like the delicate threads that are hanging everywhere. Looking forward to more views of this web. :-)

Great abstract and colorful photo, i like such imaginative ideas, beautiful result
ourania (47784) 2014-03-16 10:43
a superb close up on this fascinating artwork, I like very much the distorted patterns, the vividness and graduation of the colours against a mysterious dark environment. The lines crossing the frame in all directions are irresistible too. There's a strong impression of fluidity and movement and of an imminent shifting of the patterns. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely Sunday,

Bonsoir, cher Craig,
Félicitations pour cette réussite photographique. Difficile d'imaginer la provenance sans l'explication de la note très intéressante.
Le résultat est stupéfiant.

Superb composition, this original and fascinating sculpture, thanks to your good note, we know that changes color if you also can not change the ways ....? It is an image of great beauty chromatic, which highlights the great black night.
Great management of both the brightness and the good sharpness.
Well done. I love it.
Have a nice day.
All the best.

subhendu_bagchi (26089) 2014-03-17 19:08
this web is really a peace of beauty and you presented it interestingly with complete black at BG. Great composition, love the positioning of it in the frame. Excellent clarity and sharpness. Superb-shot. Tfs.
abmdsudi (55562) 2014-03-17 21:02
The photo is a good basis for an abstract by playing around with available colours to give this stunning and eye catching effect as the eye is also trying to imagine the size. The negative background renders the feel of greater space and depth emphasised by the soft side lighting. Exposure is seamless, superb sharpness and tx yo to your keen smart eyes in the first place. Awesome and tfs.
saxo042 (37900) 2014-03-18 4:48
A very fascinating art installation with all these colours. A very artistic picture as well!
Hansaphotos (8253) 2014-03-18 7:44
A wonderful black hour photo of this unique artwork. Splendid colours and light. The foreground web is a nice addition to the scene. Lovely composed and presented:) Thanks.
Have a nice week.
ktanska (28134) 2014-03-18 11:03
While it is interesting to see the surroundings on the other upload, I think this is more stunning as it is so abstract. Colours against the black background are very clear. Somehow it looks as if it was generated by some computer software.
krzychu30 (15512) 2014-03-19 2:25
after seeing your newest photo I enjoy this one and its "abstract" look even more.
You framed and close-up this scene perfectly leaving only small part of completely black BG(which emphasizes well the colors and artistry of the main subject)
Cricri (121195) 2014-03-19 8:53
J'aime le côté artistique de la réalisation, le jeu des couleurs sur le fond sombre, belle et intéressante image
tyro (25884) 2014-03-20 6:22
This is a totally different genre of photograph for you - an almost totally "graphical" image - but, as with all your photography, you have done the job perfectly! But you did use a tripod, so what was stopping you dressing up in a "Spiderman" costume, climbing up there and firing your shutter remotely? :o)
I presume that this wasn't taken on a windy day or night as I guess that the web would move in the wind and a three second exposure would then be out of the question.
A brilliant composition with fabulous light and colours, perfect exposure and stunning details and sharpness.
Didi (60588) 2014-03-20 10:06
Beautiful colours very good lights control in the black hour
I thought before that it was a part of a hot air ballon
But I saw after the next pictures

Gidday dear Craig
Sorry I've been walkabout again. I saw this when I was away but didn't have the internet juice to post a reply. Wow, it's a beauty, I love everything about it and especially the fact that it's so out of your usual comfort zone. Abstractosis is catching. Superb graphism, depth and colour. The light has been managed flawlessly but I shudder to think of the size of the spider that lives in this web!
Cheers and congrats, she's a cracker!
ikeharel (73539) 2014-03-26 8:32
Fabulous harmony of colors, well saturated, Craig.
Immaculate sharp details and wonderfully in contrast to the dark sky.
adores (45857) 2014-04-13 18:18
An unusual shot! The light is perfect and the colourful tissue really stands out with the dark background. I like it!
