I wanted to upload a photo for Halloween!
Something on the gruesome side of things for a change.
Here we have Blood Alley. A historical Alley in the heart of Gastown.
Not sure if you remember from my previous posts, but Gastown was the birthplace of Vancouver, and there are some scary stories from what went on here many years ago.
One of the best is Blood Alley.
Butcher shops took over streets, there were many more butcher shops than there were shopping stores.
If you wanted a fresh cut of meat, this was the place to go.
There were so many butcher shops in town, and with the lack of proper plumbing back in those days, it just made for a bad scene.
At the end of each working day, the butchers would wash off the blood from their stores and from their clothes while standing in these back alleys. They would also dump large buckets of blood. The blood would find its way down the alley, and into the main town square where the shops and locals spent their time.
The square was also known for public executions. It didn't take long for this area to be known as Blood Alley Square.
I'll add a WS photo as well.

Interesant i dobar tekst o prodavnici i mestu, sa datim podacima ...
Dobar trenutak snimka, lepo pokazana prodavnica sa svetlom koje pokazuje unutrasnjost.
Dobar rad sa lepom fotografijom u radionici.
Imajte lep i uspesan dan, sve najbolje.
Interesting in a good article about the store and the location, with the given data ...
A good time recording, beautifully demonstrated shop with the light showing the inside.
Good work with a lovely photograph of the workshop.
Have a great and successful day, all the best.

From my two brief visits to Vancouver during the summer of 2012, I remember visiting this street on the tour bus. Your photo shows excellent light management.

Voilà une rue bien adaptée à "l’événement", les couleurs de l'image contribuant à en rendre l'atmosphère particulière.

Wooow Craig, it is really creepy. Such bloody stories you give us for Halloween. I read you note and try to imagine the scene of the butchers with the knives in blood. And there were executions also/ Well, the animals were executed all the time. Brrr. But I would like to see it :)

Funny shot for Halloween! I have never heard about this street before. Like the way you executed the view with a perfectly managed light and colors. The visual effect is great and moody! Like it!

Excellent contrast of colors with the strange velvet hues enhancing the orange window shop. A black human silhouette is missing at right, waiting for some persons to be murdered in the Blood street!

Similar places existed in many Medieval towns in England; one that comes to mind is The Shambles in York, which was also the haunt of the butchers of the town. I like the point of view and the tonal and textural contrasts offered by the warmly lit window and the adjacent brickwork.

J'aime beaucoup la petite histoire qui accompagne cette photo. J'ai eu le plaisir de visiter cet endroit il y a quelques années déjà et cela semble encore pareil. Beaucoup d'histoires dans un quartier très dur.

great picture for Halloween!
Blood alley stimulates our imagination and makes the mood quite spooky. Also the light coming from inside the shop is superb!
Love your second shot in WS.I think the silhouette of the man enhances only the mood of the scene.
Have a nice weekend

Nice entry for Halloween and a blood curdling story to go along with it. Good POV showing the warmly lit interior of the shot making good contrast to the black wall along the side showing different tones maybe caused by blood spatter, hehe.

Love this for both the picture and the story. Reminded me of my mention of the Bucket of Blood Saloon in Holbrook here
The warm colours of your picture are just right for the subject. Very well done.

Your sense of smell and seeing blood red is first class!
The spooky atmospheric alley you stumbled upon is aptly named which is a bit strange but true. Blood Alley makes me hover around this shot and you are smart to pick up the road sign how clever you relate this and immediately thought of Halloween!! This is well spotted, the interesting of colours and imaginative. A great image, perfectly capturing the mood, I prefer this than you additional picture, imho the mystery man just takes attention away from the main focal. Congrats
