Well, today was a wonderful day to walk around downtown and grab as many photo's as possible.
I love doing this on days where there is such a wide range of clouds in the sky, clouds always make photo's that much better right!
This is Coal Harbour in Vancouver. A hip, quiet, beautiful part of the city. If you look closely to the left you can see the Olympic Torch from the Winter Olympics a few years ago, and to the right is our famous Stanley Park which I've posted photo's from before many times.
In the middle with the high rise condo's is Coal Harbour, such a wonderful place to live if you can afford it. You would be walking distance to everything you need and have waterfront views to die for.
I only come here to eat, photograph, walk around, and enjoy my day :)
If any TE members come to Vancouver, this is certainly one of the hot spots I'd take you to.
A couple of TE members have mentioned already that the area doesn't look very busy, or it looks life-less.
The reason for that is because its a National Holiday on the day i took this photo. Its a 3 or 4 day weekend, and many locals have packed up and left the city for a mini-holiday of their own.
The people you see here are mostly tourists, so thats why the tables are empty :)
Hope you like it

Hi Craig, I hope that one day you will show me this (although I maybe prefer the Victorian houses that Daniel showed :)). But to eat, photograph and walk around it is a great place. fantastic shot, where is the guy with the plates going?
Some clouds are better than just the cloudless sky, for sure. here maybe to many clouds.
have a nice day

Good pov well managed, interesting depth with the line of building, people are an interesting complement to give life at the photo and good colors contrast with this red in particular.

I have learnt that paying respect to the composition is the quintessence of photography, and this shot is the testimony of the great saying.
Many folks can click this image from the same point of view, but how many will take care no to cut off the legs!!
This shot is not only of the daily life but also of the decisive moment. Had you clicked it a moment later, then she would had gone with both the plates!!
To me this is a great landscape where all the elements be it a foreground or a background, are present, and presented in the most elegant way.

Great pov to capture all those modern shapes of architecture. If I'll ever come to Canada, I'll remember the invitation(although I'm afraid I'll won't be used with such huge urban open spaces filled with skyscrapers).
Enjoy a good evening.

I like the wide-angle view and the placement of the various elements in the frame. The sky is a bit too overcast for my liking, but it is nicely relieved by the big red parasols. The people bring the scene to life, I especially like the presence of the waitress carrying the plates.

I have been to Vancouver 5 times times and loved it but have never stayed for more than a couple of days so would love to do more exploring especially if we could meet you. The place that you show in your picture illustrates the outdoor kind of place that it is. The glass fronted buildings dominate the skyline and the red sun shades and chairs add some punchy colour. It doesn't look very busy at the time that you visited. A super wide view with plenty of interest - TFS.
Kind Regards, Ann

Cela a beaucoup changé depuis ma dernière visite.

having been brought up and worked in London for the first 30 years of my life and then moving south, with my job, to the coast, I can identify with the sentiment behind this fine image. I love going back up into the big City every now and then to do exactly what you do here in Vancouver. Much more relaxing than when I worked there and so much more fulfilling. Still miss the buzz though, but prefer my seaside and river way of life. Super shot by the way, but then you NEVER disappoint me. Cool!

Agreed on the clouds, they add so much life to a scene, as you show perfectly here. I love those glass towers on the left, and the comparison of those to the wide open expanse all around the shot. I also love that you caught a waitress delicately balancing somebodies lunch in the slight left centre foreground :)
Beautiful scene, the city seems to stretch on forever.
All the best

Hi Craig, lovely view of this pretty town, very well captured with a great pov in this great and beautiful photography with excellent perspective and depth. A lovely image with good sharpness, light and color. A nice, good job perfectly done, congratulations my friend. Thanks for sharing this interesting work.
Good day and happy week.
Warm greetings from southern Spain.

I like the POV in this one. The red umbrellas in the foreground really jump out, and I like the people walking by, including the waitress with some plates in her hands. :-) All of the glass highrises are chic and attractive, and you even have the word "Vancouver" in there so there's no mistaking where you are. :-) I can see where the Olympic torch was lit, but what are all those other tall, metal things jutting up from the ground?? Are they for lighting?
holmertz (59152) 2013-09-03 10:16
No offence intended (you didn't plan this area), but to me this looks a bit empty and sterile, a bit wind-swept and lonely. I honestly prefer lively, scruffy older cities. But this site is not for judging cities, so I can just as honestly say that I like your photo, where the long line of high rise buildings provide very good depth and you have a fine combination of red, green and light brown in the foreground. As well as a waitress who was totally unaware of your camera and the fact that I'm now watching her from the other side of earth.

Ciao e buona serata

I like this shot of the huge modern space taken by a wide angle lens.
What a sky . The red umbrellas attract attention of the spectator and they are cool diversity in your composition. TFS

Splendid view of the city. The composition is very good and you are right about the great sky.

Hello Craig ,
May be modern cities like Vancouver are less picturesque than some towns in the old Europe , but they provide nevertheless superb opportunities to the photograph . An excellent composition here , with an effective diagonal , many contrasted elements , in term of shapes or colors . I like the soft light under this beautiful cloudy sky , too .

Until I became familiar with your work, the only pictures I can ever recall seeing of Vancouver were the broad sweeping skyline views, which are impressive in their own right...but I have to say, I've thoroughly enjoyed getting a better, more intimate look around town through your eyes. This is a great example of just that, an area and perspective new and exciting...even if there are only but a handful of people! :)
I can't help but think again that you consciously waited for this exact moment to snap the shutter...especially considering the woman with the plates in hand and in stride. The clouds sure can make the difference in a photo, no doubt about that...and you have some good ones here to make the scene a little more dynamic in its overall appearance. Great line up of the buildings too, taking my eye all the way down the river front. I've been looking through your older post's, but sure hope to see many more from your hometown! have a good evening. take care.

ChrisJ (117883) 2013-09-04 3:31
I like the sweeping curve of the promenade and the superb warm cold colour contrasts between the red and cyan. Good sharpness and the eople animate the scene as well as providing scale. Well composed with good breathing space. Ps let me know which fb posts of my travel photos you would like to see on TE. I am hopeless at deciding which are the better images.
marabu61 (11279) 2013-09-04 4:38
Now that is a corner of Vancouver we definitly missed out, alas next time.
That wide open square with the pleasing outdoor seeting looks like a great place to while away some time.
Good to see here are the so typique architecture to Vancouver with the glass and steel sky scrapers. I yet haven't seen any other city with a similar architecture?
have a great day
PS: We have't come across more victorian houses in downtown Vancouver, but the ones shown in my last upload definitly where in very good shape. Most of them had little buisinesses on the ground floor.

Beautiful scene! I really like the city of Vancouver, I visited the place a few times when I live in the Northwest. Nice place to have meal and watch the harbor. Good lighting and nice details. Well done, tfs.

Vancouver ought to be proud of you. You are a fantastic advertiser for your hometown. For me – living in Old Europe – it is always a pleasure to view your images of this modern town. What I like best about this one is the excellent perspective. Thoughtfully composed it is a stunning photograph. My compliments also for the note!

Hello dear Craig,

Ah, finally a scene from VC again, and a fresh one too! The sign in the fg leaves no doubt where we are. Excellent choice of POV, high enough to get a fine view along the row of high rise condos. A well balanced scene of this stunning view. Beautiful:) TFS.
