The Vancouver public library is a very imaginative building. Around a central rectangular block is a free standing colonnaded wall containing reading rooms and studies accessible by bridges from the main block. The second interieur facade forms an internal court serving as a public square. The whole building was inspired by the Colosseum in Rome and was the idea of architect Moshe Safdie
It is the second largest library in Canada with over 2.8 items in its collection and with over 375'000 cardholders still strives strong in the digital age. This Vancouver landmark was completed in 1995.

Thank you for the kind comments today, always appreciated! I must admit, I don't read terribly often, but if I had a library like this I might be more inclined! :) A beautiful building indeed, and it's easy to understand the design concept...will it last as long as the Colosseum though??
This is a great angle, highlighting the curves and form. It also gives us a good idea of its size, the few people on the steps also aid in deriving the scale. The only missing are some gladiators! :) A smart composition to accentuate its visual strengths, along with sharp focus and detail. Very nicely done. Thanks for taking us here. Enjoy the day ahead. Take care.

Hi Daniel, Very interesting architecture of this library. This colonnaded wall joined by the bridges with the main building is really unique idea. One can see that the inspiration came from Colosseum in Rome.
Good work, tfs.
Have a wonderful Sunday

I really like this building, and the angle you chose to show it from. Vy unusual, and despite its obviously modern building materials and purpose, it does hark well to the colosseum. A great addition to the city I am sure!
All the best

This is a very interesting building and I like this corner you have chosen to share with us. I like the way the opening between the two parts seems to go on, I suspect i am looking at a reflection. Very well seen and rendered.

A really interesting building architectural shot as It has been composed well that draws the eye well into powerful zooming lines of perspective. It's a shot with fine effect which echoes many strong repeated lines and curves in limited colour range by keep drawing the eyes into the receding lines Superb contrast and immense depth with 3 D feel shot and geometrical value Good observation and so well taken, Congrats

ah yes, the Vancouver Public Library, its a fun place to take photos if you don't mind the people walking around everywhere - but you said you encountered alot of rain so perhaps there were far less people at the time.
its basically impossible to line up all the curves and verticles to match - you're bound to have at least one or two areas that look out of balance - nothing you can do about it.
Its a fun place but also a difficult place for photography. you got the most important area of the building though. Looking forward to seeing whats next :)

Very interesting building!
Truly attractive picture with special regards to the chosen pov, vertical format, composition and level of sharpness!
