On the promenade of English Bay stands the granite sculpture created 1987 by artist Alvin Kanak, originally from the north-west territories, for the World Expo.
The Inukschuk is a typical Inuit landmark, used for different purposes such as marker, navigational aid, coat of arms and more and represents normally a human figure.
This particular Inukschuk was chosen as mascot for the 2010 olympic winter games.
English Bay is a pleasant walk (when it is not raining) along the sea from Sunset beach towards Stanley park.
I like to take this occasion to thank the Vancouver public transport for their great services and their extremely friendly and helpful staff. On this occasion it was raining quite heavy and while we where running for the next bus stop, a bus stopped along us, way outside any bus stop to pick us up and after inquiring about our destination the bus driver again stopped his bus not at the regular bus station but closest to our Hotel to let us out. Really CHAPEAU, try that with a bus driver in Switzerland and he will show you the finger.

Ay, Daniel -- bus drivers put up with a lot, so I guess they should be forgiven, but I still remember my "Welcome to New York" experience. At age 20, I was returning from a 3-month trip to western Europe and Morocco (a few fotos from that long-ago trip have been posted here). The fare for the bus from the airport was one dollar. I HAD A DOLLAR! But it was a paper currency, and the cash-box would only handle coins. I tried to hand the dollar to the driver, as there was no place to insert it into the machine, to be told flatly, "We don't handle your money."
No thanks to the driver, a friendly stranger helped me out, trading me four quarters for my buck.
Have a great day!

I saw a similar work of art at Whistler, unfortunately it was surrounded by red flags and blue tape, which took away from its beauty. You have a good POV here. Did you, by any chance, try to take a photo through the opening in the middle?

This is a very impressive monument and it's well placed with a beautiful view of the sea. This should have been the best POV to be found here. I like the mild colours. I also enjoy the nice story about the bus driver. His attitude would have been unthinkable in Stockholm too, not just in Switzerland and NY.

Indeed this is a very interesting sculpture which you have captured from a good angle against what looks like a very overcast sky. Like the flowers at the base along with the green grass which gives some contrast to the colour of the granite.

Very cool sculpture, and very eyecatching. Almost like a little man made from Lego! I like how you present this in such a pleasing natural scene. You note makes me smile too :)
All the best

Well, its nice to hear how you were treated! Thats amazing :)
As for the photo, this subject is in every locals gallery. We all have it.
Its really really sweet to come here during sunset, you can get beautiful silhouette photos of the Inukschuk.
You came and conquered on the vancouvers classics!

Hi Daniel, First, I like the last part of your note. Sometimes the drivers can be very friendly, and sometimes quite opposite. similar situation happened to me in Cambridge, Also the bus stopped outside the stops and took and gave advice.
Nice sculpture, looks like a strange cross, or maybe a figure.

Hello dear Daniel, how are you?
Sorry for my late reply as I had 1 week trip.
Again great shot in perfect farmework via sharp / clear presenbtation. A little over exposure makes so fantatsic moody image. The wild flowers below are very good accent.
Thanks a lot and have a good day! Takero

Those stone sculptures are very interesting, I've seen very intricate constructions. Nicely captured with good lighting and nice details. Well done, tfs.

La distance entre l'inukschuk et les montagnes au loin donne de la profondeur à l'image. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails et les couleurs de l'inukschuk. Le ciel nuageux donne un bon contraste aux couleurs de l'image. Bonne journée.
