Photographer’s Note

I was passing right here when I saw those Canadian Geese. I had to stop the car and watch their picnic time. Unfortunately the original image was a bit blurred but that's not visible at this size.

Stanley Park is recognized around the globe as one of the great parks of the world. Vancouver's first park and one of the city's main tourist attractions, Stanley Park is an evergreen oasis of 400 hectares (1,000 acres) close to the downtown core. Its natural west coast atmosphere offering a back drop of majestic cedar, hemlock and fir trees embraces visitors and transports them to an environment rich in tranquility. The park abounds in wildlife and its features appeal to the naturalist, the plant lover or one who would do nothing more than relax in beautiful surroundings.

The Canada Goose (Branta canadensis) is a wild goose belonging to the genus Branta, which is native to Arctic and temperate regions of North America, having a black head and neck, white patches on the face, and a brownish-gray body. It is quite often called the Canadian Goose, but that name is not strictly correct, according to the American Ornithologists' Union.

I've been trying to define how this looks like for 10 minutes now, and finally I think I know - this looks like an image displayed on a lightbox, illuminated from behind to bring out all tones and textures of the leaves on the trees. love the effect, and do I detect slight vignetting at the bottom? like it too.

Wow, so many canadian geese are there and all are eating something. Amazing scene. Great point of view and composition that provides us to see them with the grass of field and green trees at background. Nice contrast. Good saturated colours. Sharpness and depth is excellent indeed. A title very well selected for this very nice shot. I like the composition very well balanced with the birds in the FG and the coloured trre in the BG. An iamge full of life and full of colors with a great depht. Excellent photowork.

Hello Carlos,

This is such a fine scene!
The lovely light is one of the things I notice as the background is blessed by the rays from the summer sun...
Concerning the Canada Geese they were introduced in Europe some years ago, and like what sometimes happen with a species in a new setting they became some of a plague. Not with me but I'm told they often eat the newly planted seed in fields during their migration hehehe...

Lovely light throughout the picture as well as the post processing, creating a sort of vignetting around the photo.thereby concentrating the gaze on the center of the picture.

These beautiful creatures give some inscrutability to the scene resembling prehistoric animals. My first thought was that Stanley Park is some kind of Jurassic Park. But in your picture it is much better due to the perfect composition and excellent management of light and colors. Great job!

You were likely to photograph one really marvellous moment, it is astonishing to see as many geese on the same place, especially downtown !!! I like the variations in colors and in light and shadows. The colors belie August, appearing to be in the fall, but then this is Vancouver in the North. A very good family portrait of the geese.
