This is my fifth picture from my Vancouver Urban series.
The rent-a-cop. A ubiquitous urban phenomenon. Thing is they have no power to do anything except to call real cops. What is happening in society that we need "security" everywhere. Are we really that insecure? If so, why?
Post-pro: crop to square frame, curves.
I also have another pic taken at this location posted on TL: It's Not Too Late

The diagonal shadows and rays of light on the floor help drawing our attention into the frame (where there 's nothing interesting by the way) before we get to the two men. The fact they're dressed in black settles the atmosphere in the composition.
ps: it is not a question of insecurity. It is a question of paranoļa.

Beautiful picture. The way the light hits the floor, and the cracks on that floor, just great. I like the way the light leads you into the background.
Although it is a big question, I do not recognize any security related subject in this picture.

Everyone's frightened these days. In some instances justifyably so... however public knowledge of these instances leads to widespread paranoia. Oe sometimes, we're just downright nasty-pasties towards one another.
I like the low (afternoon?) warm lighting you've chosen for this picture-- makes the shadows nice and long. Not so happy about the mild overlap between the two guards-- perhaps a split second before might have made it that much more special?

Hi Alex... I think we dont live in a insecure society, and I“m writting from Madrid where once four trains were exploded killing almost 200 people. Even so, I dont think we live in a insecure world: We live in a IN-communication and IN-comprehension world. About the picture I have to say that the way you capture the light in the floors and the walls was what attire me to clic over your photo. Good wide-shot.

nice composition, but i think i'd like the photo better if it was in black and white, high contrast.

Great photo with a lot of feeling behind it. Only thing that bothers me slightly is the amount of space you have left at the bottom.

Excellent composition Alex, great capture of this scene, wonderful mood, well done.

Have the same problem in Romania too...One of them wanted to take my camera away for taking a photo in the subway. For god's sake !
As for the photo..it has a very expresive concept, as they turn away from the sole obvious objective they had to protect. Nice facing the ground captured, here.

Excellent take and timming. I love the light and all those shadows and cracks on the floor.
I wish I could answer properly to your question! I feel insecure...

when i first saw this image and confirmed after reading your note, my impression was that these guys attended the same security course this one did :) (i am sadly surprised this 'running for imaginary security' is spread around...
take a look at the ws, Alex, please. it“s just a very personal interpretation of your beautiful image.

Men In Black, although this image isn't funny. The insecurity and creepiness of our daily lives shown at it's best. Those two guys could have their faces made of concrete and it would change their expressions at all.
The image is very cold but at the same time pleasing to look at, probably due to good light, shadows, textures on the pavement.

Very nice image. I like how the agressive light and cold environment produce an unconfortable and empty atmosphere, much like these guys atitude.
As long as you producing series I think something important must be considered. To maintain the shape, or at least the image proportions (hight vs lenght) to creat an harmony. This is something only now I've realized and worries me. I'll probably have to re-crop most of my work...

Hello Alex. Next really: "kind of: what, when, where". This is bizzare I'm sure. Athmosphere is so empty and metalic like from "matrix". So many contrasts. Flawers in this place- strange. Services in the background have a many mind. I dont know... good luck
