Photographer’s Note
For many years now I have photographed this old log on Frank Island every time we visit. This is a scan from a slide that was taken in 1998. When I went here last time in 2007 it had diasappeared. I suppose the high water had wisked it away during a winter storm. The details in the root were always fascinating and it seemed that I saw something different each time I photographed it.

Hello Phil,
A good quality for a scan: nice colours and details well collectd. The FG is very graphic and, especially, very impressive.
Have a good day,
Roger

Hi Phil,
Wonderful light! Well seen and well captured. It's too bad that the log has disappeared - but who knows what the surf will bring to the shore next time.
I was on Frank Island on 9-11... had just returned from a 3-day kayak trip off Tofino... It was so weird not to see any planes in the sky!
Best,
Claudia

Phil,
a perfect example what the right light can do to an ordinary piece wood. OK, it isn't that ordinary. It has its real charm and I can understand why you were photographing it every time you returned to this place. I guess I would have done the same. The far background is such a lovely detail to this image, but so small that I wonder if there wouldn't be a possibility to have another version of the same place but with more of that background.

Hi, Phil.
It strongly reminds me of another pretty similar old log I've been photographing in 2004 on Lake Edison's shore, Sierra Nevada, California. Strong picture, featuring a unique dreamy light, and a real high quality scan. Love that piece of far background too... Have a good day, buddy. I'll be seeing you.
Fulvio.

Hi Phil,
You found this impressive piece of drift wood bathed in brilliant warm light that brings out lovely golden tones and wonderfully textured details.
It has probably drifted up on some other beach to attract a new set of photographers.

Hi Phil. It’s not just the root structure that’s amazing here, the light is and colours are amazing and warm the whole beautifully. Bold composition makes the most of the colours and textures. Nice capture and thanks for sharing.
Have a good weekend, Paul.

Hi Phil,
A very striking old log in wonderful light. Too bad there was no color in the sky but then that's how it is sometimes. Thanks for reaching back in your archive for this one. Geald

Hello Phil! I love to photograph things at different times and seasons just like your but sometimes things change and like your old log they disappear forever with water, wind or even human hand. Very nice the land in the back, it gives us some reference where you were. Have a wonderful weekend, it snows where I am right now ... does this ever stop :)))) Barbara.
