Photographer’s Note
Every year at Harrison Lake from Labour Day weekend till Oct 10 one can see the World Sand Castle Competition results. I took a drive there one afternoon this week and captured what I thought would be a nice series to post. What I saw there was by far the most amazing sand artwork I have ever seen in my life. The way these pieces of art in sand stay up like this for almost a month is beyond me. So I have a number of photos to share so enjoy the series.
This first setting won first place. There is alot of drama involved in this creation. The bushman is telling children about his adventures in the woods. Meanwhile behind him is a bear between two trees. More postings to follow tommorrow to see more amazing details of this work.

That is just remarkable - i'm knocked out by it! Just fantastic sculpture - I'm fascinated to know how it is done - I haven't really seen any since I was a kid at weymouth in the UK.

It's difficult to imagine the talent of the people who do these sculptures; you'd think the sand would keep falling off as they work, never mind keeping them like this for weeks. Good capture of this little scene. I'm looking foreward to the detailed shots.

Hi Paul,
Looks like a great artwork,-a pity that it will only lasts for days..
Again excellent sharpness and clarity in this picture.Maybe a little less dof would isolate it better from the busy background.
Have a nice weekend,

Hi Paul, Thanks for getting this nice shot of the wonderful sand art for us. I have never seen anything like this quality using sand sculpture before. I feel that it is pity to have the sand washes out eventually. However, your picture would be able to make people keeping in good memory of them forever. A very well taken picture with well use of light and nice PoV. Well done.
