Photographer’s Note
We hiked up to the Opabin Plateau in Yoho National Park about a week after the first snowfall and experienced the larches starting to turn gold in the fall. Larches are the only tree with needles that shed every year like a deciduous tree. This was at about the 7,500 ft (2,200 meter)level above sea level.

I am so envious, Phil.
Canada has to be one of the most beautiful places on earth and you do a grand job of showing it off. Wonderful colors, lovely light and contrast, great composition with the golden 'evergreen' to the left and then that matching one further back. Man, that's beautiful. Many thanks and warmest regards,
Shelly

Hello Phil! I had a larch in my garden, the needles are amazing that come down but it is such a nice tree, it changes with the season, the spring version is lovely too. Nice idea to show trees and water and nothing else beside. It feels like standing in the forest myself, breathing deep, enjoying the silence. Very nice work, I like it a lot. I hope you started well in the new year, I have, again lots of food but also long walks which makes the "deal". Happy New Year ... Barbara.

Hi Phil
Larches are one of my favorite trees especially when they are turning to gold like those on your picture. Indeed, this tree is really unique because, as you said, it is the only one with needles that shed every year like a deciduous tree. I like the colour and tones of the water. Colours are splendid and details excellent. I really like that one. You did a great job! Cheers!!!
Best regards
Denis!

I love larches too as they add lovely autumn colour to the 'pine' forests. They make a wonderful contrast here with the turquoise water. There are some good reflections too. There is a nice balance between the two golden larches as the eye automatically goes from one to the other.

Hi, Phil.
I fully agree with Shelly : you're doing a great job at showing us the gems of your country. I've never been to Canada, but these shots of yours (and Gerald's too) sure give me some stuff to think about... Perfect framing, based on brilliant colors and absolutely wonderful in all its simplicity, TFS! Have a good day, I'll be seeing you.

Hi Phil,
I really like the way you captured the transparency of the water and the golden trees that seem to float in the water. Wonderful color and detail in this well-framed compo.
We have a couple of those trees in our Oregon yard, except there they are called tamarack.

Phil,
the image is so typical for what I saw at Yoho. The play of colors with the dark green water contrasting with the yellow/ orange larch is just great.
