Photographer's Note

Noel has many photos posted here in Dublin and around Ireland of buildings which are condemned, left to rot, and or have unique histories - so using that as my inspiration i present to you today our local Haunted Hospital.

This is just one section of Riverview Hospital. Riverview is a Psychiatric Hospital for the Mentally ill.

It opened in 1913, under the name "The Hospital for the Mind" - not very creative in my opinion! Obviously the name changed later on.

There are approx 1000 acres of land here, where you will fine "west lawn" "centre lawn" and "east lawn". Pictured here is the now condemned "west lawn". There are also dozens and dozens of "cottages" spread about the grounds, and many other facilities - each with a specific pt care (north lawn for the brain injured with mental illness, and there is also a building for the eldery with severe mental illness).

At its peak in the 1950's Riverview housed over 4500 pts. Today, sadly, its down to about 50 or less, and its continuing to dwindle down to the point of closing completely. But thats a political story that I won't bore you with here.

I used to work at this Psychiatric Hospital, and I've heard many haunted ghost stories. And trust me, if you've ever walked the halls at night here, its scary enough that you're mind will create ghosts! I can clearly remember doing 'rounds' during Night shift...I'm very pleased to say that today i'm working in a brand new hospital :)

I've heard stories from doctors which tell of instruments flying in the air in the Operating room during procedures.

Heard of stories where even in the condemned buildings such as "west lawn" pictured here, security patrols are called to investigate why call bells are ringing at pts bedsides, when they enter the room they can hear screams coming from INSIDE the walls.

Loud thuds and sounds of large furniture being dragged on the floors can be heard by security and nursing staff on condemned floors above where they are currently working.

There are even underground tunnels that connect each 'Lawn' and 'cottage', I wont even say what i've heard about those tunnels!

Take a look at 2 WS photos aswell
Have a good night
