Well I am sure many trek members can recall certain days that were perfect for photography. The one day that stood out in my mind in the Fraser Valley was Nov 28th. I look for those perfct winter days when the sky is clear and the setting sunlight can bring wonderful highlights in the snow like this. We had a number of days when the wind blew the snow into drifts and created sea like ripples in the fields. This was the objective of capturing this photo. Hope you enjoy this and all the best to the many trek earth friends I have made in this last year. Cheers to all!

I like your idea of hiding the sun behind the trees. The sky, the mountain, the silhouettes of huts & the foreground looks very nice. You have played nicely with the light. TFS.

I love the golden highlights that you point out here. The ripples look like the sand just below the surface of the water...or fossilized from some ancient seabed. Great job handling the sun here, a very good exposure. It is a shot that makes a little shiver hit me; it gives off the feeling of a crisp winter day.
How was your Christmas? Have a good NewYear bud.
Yeah, already asked you about Christmas...how are your new snow shoes?

Very interesting picture. I like how this image is built diagonally along the shadow. We have bright sun at one and dark snow surface on the other corner. I like your pictures for you colors and sharpness. Do you use filters or polarizers?

Amazing scenery and beautiful colours! I love how you took this photo facing the sun while managing the light perfectly. The detailed ripples in and the glitter in the snow is amazingly captured! Excellent work, Paul!
PS: All the best for New Year!

Tu nous proposes à nouveau une excellente composition. Toute cette immmensité blanche sans trace de vie, que la nature est belle.
Merci pour ce partage et meilleurs voeux pour toi et ta famille.

Well composed, good light!
In particular the nicely exposed large space with snow works well...
Fine details, backlight very well managed!

Great tones in this picture, from the snow to the sky, all is nice.

I like the light and shadow play on the snow. The houses with the trees are just adding background and the sky finally frames the upper part.
Wonderful light management. Happy New Year, Ulf

Hi Paul, Thanks for sharing yet another fantastic image. I have been inspired by your talent and gift of viewing and capturing the oft ordinary and making something photographically absolutely extraordinary. I am a photography novice but have learned much in the last 6 months on TE and am eager to excel by continually improving what I hope is a budding talent as well. You are a gift to TE and to the wonderful world of exploring and mastering the art of nature photography. Thanks, and all the best in 2007. Gerald

Wow! I really like the light in this shot. The sunlight skimming across the top of the snow shows a lot of texture there, and lots of detail where it might have been just pure white later in the day. Happy New Year Paul, and hope you have a great 2007!

Beautiful farmland winter scenery. Good composition with excellent light as usual from you.
Happy New Year to you and your family

j'ai vu le Canada en automne je ferai bien le voyage en hiver pour voir ce genre de paysage. Merveilleuse lumière rasante qui donne du relief à la neige et la fait briller.

Dear Paul ... oh dear, this is so so pretty out here. I can almost feel the cold coming all the way from Canada into my living room. I like the way you enter the picture with plenty of snow as a foreground and the farm in the back. This gives a "wide open space feeling" to me. I do love rural Canada, especially these round barns.
Have a great start in the New Year, the first day in January is almost over in Switzerland, with rain and wind, also on higher grounds ... Barbara.

Winter landscapes are one of my favourites. Especially because of very interesting play of light and shadows on the surface of the snow, nice contrasts and freshness in the air. I like Your scene very much - well composed, perfect exposure control. Well done!

Another of your great backlit shots, Paul. The snow is so well rendered with its light and shaded parts and great detail throughout. Don't know how you do it with the sun staring straight at you. You still have some detail in the buildings and a nice effect of perspective is afforded by the converging shadows of the trees. Excellent work
Vincelavisse (454) 2007-01-08 11:45
Wow: so much snow, you are lucky over there! This is overall a great picture: the white balance, the exposure, the composition, the contrast are really great particulary in those light condition.
Thanks for sharing and best wishes for 2007!

You perfected the technique of shooting into the sun, Paul, with spectacular results. Another one of your masterpieces!

great backlight shot well managed.
I like the snow texture, well composed with the trees and the farm.
