Its always interesting to see how the day will end in the Fraser Valley. I had plans of heading out during the early afternoon but my plans were changed. So as the day came to a close late in the afternoon I noticed this wonderful pink evening tones on the mountian tops. I quickly found this spot hoping to capture some sort of foreground for this sunset.
I seldome post sunset photos on trek earth, but I knew I had something worth sharing as this day came to a close. This is the Fraser River and the distant mountian is Sumas Mountian.
I wanted to use my 70-200 lens but found the focal length too long to capture this scene. So I took four verticals and stitched them together. It did not turn out to my satisfaction. I do hope though that you enjoy this scene. Winter Cheers to all on Trek tonight. Good night and sleep tight!

Hello Paul. This looks like a typical sunset in Western Canada. The water in the foreground and the mountains in the far distance are excellent captured. The colors definitely attract my attention the most. Nice work and thanks for sharing.

Your frame is excellently stitched at least its capture. Sunset colors are really stunning on sky. I like also beautiful reflection is on Fraser River with ice blocks and silhouettes at background. Congratulations.
Still 28 Celsius (82F) centigrade at 1:45 AM here ;) Please send some ice... Have a nice Sunday.

Great colors and sharpness, that the first that jumps to my mind. But the framing and timing a just perfect too. Great shot of this cold landscape.

Almost like a volcanic sky. While the sky in the horizon is relatively cloudless the ones on top really adds to the sense of drama together with the reflections on the Fraser river.

Well, this one is just plain beautiful. The colors are great and the hints of reflection off of the ice clad river are enticing. I really like this photo, maybe because I too live on the mighty Fraser..

Hello Paul -
You were right, these are wonderful tones reflecting off the clouds after sunset. This is a very peaceful image with nice reflections in the water. The sky is properly exposed and the mountain is in silhouette but I think the foreground should be a touch lighter with a touch more detail. Otherwise, a fine capture, well done!
Thank you for sharing

Amazing tones in the sky, with a superb foreground. The shot sizzles and there is good clarity. This was certainly captured at the decisive moment. Cheers.

Hi Paul. This is one of your better shots as of late. I can see why you posted it so quickly. The sky is so good it looks like you used a grad ND filter. I like the fact that you've got some ice building up on the river already. Awesome shot Paul!

We've had some great sunsets lately, and this captures one of them incredibly well! The colours are spectacular, and the reflection adds to the scene well. The ice in the water shows how cold it's been lately too. Well done!

This is my first visit in your gallery - and I haven't got words for this. The colors and the sharpness are excellent - and it has some natural perfection.

Hi Paul - fiery above and freezing below, makes an appealing contrast, I think the sky is the best parts, but the deep blue of the snow is also pleasant, the stitchwork is excellent.
branley (3681) 2006-12-06 4:47
great image of the 'sky on fire'. Good to have the water in the foreground showing reflections of the sky and the mountain gives the image depth. Great shot.
prezntime (3946) 2006-12-11 22:14
Didn't turn out to your satisfaction huh? Looks pretty damn impressive to me. Your right, it is a change for you. To see those bright evening colors burning into the sky definately is a change for your gallery. The shot is nice and crisp and very bright given the low light. I really like the glassy reflections to give some more bright substance to the foreground. I think you did a real good job Paul.
