I thought that by removing most of the color from this photo that this would make an interesting presentation on the end of fall. There is a hint of color in the background but for the most part my favorite row of exotic maples has most of the leaves fallen to the ground. I visited this field a number of times this year and it has been worth it many times over. More photos from this field and others along the fall color theme can be seen in my Fall Color gallery. Thanks. I will also post a color version in the workshop to show the original colors. Cheers!

Exquisite. Curious, though, I'd like to see if it holds so strong an effect without removing most of the colors -- are the fallen leaves some boisterous fall shade?

I love it Paul!
One of your best shots so far (in my opinion).
The removal of color has REALLy brought out the contrast and detail in this shot.
Very well done!
P.S.- the fall color link does not work.

I must say that I agree with daniel. The removal of colors has been well executed and it really makes the titel fit even more. The end of fall-The end of colors. It's one of those times of year when it seems like nature takes a good long breath preparing for winter, removing all the un-necessary frills and color for the conservation of itself through winter.
Well captured and excellent PP.

Remarkable dof on this one and nice analogy to the coming of winter soon.

Hello Paul -
I looked at both images and the color one is very nice but your decision to convert to B&W or almost B&W works very well. The hinting of color in the middle ground is effective. I like the composition with the rows of trees forcing the viewer to look deeper into the image. Well done - excellent portfolio of fall color.
From your portfolio this tree farm must have given you many hours of enjoyment.
Thank you for sharing

Lovely idea of removing the color from the snap....autumn ends here.By removing the colours from the shot you have ably depicted the mood of the atmosphere.Great contrast and details in this shot.I love the POV and the DOF with the road going as deep as possible.Your autumn snaps have relly been a treat for eye and the end of autumn snap is nio difference either.
Great work,great photography.

I really love the starkness of this photo! I like the way the eye is led into the photo through the trees and the coversion into almost B&W is superb, really suits it. Well done and TFS :-)

The absence of colour gives this a different feel, more like winter than fall, but it has the advantage of showing the shapes very well. Good choice to leave just a hint of colour through, because it is more interesting that way. Good work!

Another great shot of another pathway among the trees. Your posts really makes me want to go to the areas where you take your photos... I hope to be able to one day.

Hi Paul. Yes I'm back as you noticed. Thanks for your critique btw. The splash of color in a sea of b/w was a neat idea. At first I thought you took this with your 50mm lens. Nice job Paul!

Wow, that's nice shot! I love how you have removed most of the colours. It gives this shot a stunning effect without losing the beautiful lighting, the details and depth! Great composition and so well captured! Excellent work, Paul!

lovely image, a stark reminder of the beginning of winter. A good conversion to B&W though I do like the WS version too, especially with that great splash of colour down the middle. A fine image Paul, well done and have a great weekend.

beaucoup de géométries ici, une vue qui laisse deviner un ciel des moins amicaux.
C'est le genre de perspctive que j'aime. On sent ici que l'hiver prend la place de l'automne.
Un POV et cadrage adéquats.
Bien à toi.
