La ville de Banff vue de Sulphur mountain, a été créée dans les années 1880 par la construction du chemin de fer transcontinental à la base de la confédération du Canada (1867). La ville très touristique est en plein dans le parc du même nom, le développement y est donc strictement controlé (on ne peut pas y trouver un emploi sans prouver qu'on a un endroit où habiter). Pendant de nombreuses années les Wapitisprofitant de l'absence de prédateurs y étaient une véritable infestation, et un délice pour appareils photos de touristes. Malheureusement il y a environ 5 ans les accidents de mâles protégeant leur troupeau contre les touristes (en chargeant avec leur bois!) et le rapprochement des cougars et loups ont forcé des mesures d'éloignement sonore et de balles de caoutchouc.
La petite ville aux pied de Cascade Mountain (à gauche) est tout autour de Tunnel Mountain, sur les bords de la Bow River juste à côté de l'autoroute trans-canadienne, à environ 2-3 heures de route de Calgary. On voit aussi dans le bas de la photo le fameux Banff Springs Hotel, dont les sources d'eau chaude sulfureuses ont fait la réputation, et le délice des randonneurs ;)
Ce panorama est un composite de 2 photos prises sur Sulphur mountain, dont l'observatoire de rayons cosmiques est un lieu historique accessible par téléphérique. En contrepartie, les feux de forêt du Montana en 2006 ont rendu difficile la recherche de contrastes dans l'air enfumé. J'ai dû corriger un peu les couleurs à cause de la balance des blancs faussée vers le bleu.
Wapiti/Elk in Banff
The town of Banff seen from Sulphur mountain, was created in the 1880s by the Trans Canada Railroad, basis for the Confederation of Canada (1867). The town is one of the most touristic in Canada, surrounded by the aptly named Banff National Park so development is strictly controlled (can't work there unless you can prove you have a place to stay). On the other hand, for a number of years the Elks were litteraly infesting the predator-free town, and a paradise for photographers. Unfortunately about 5 years ago the bucks protecting their herd from tourists (by charging with their antlers!) and the gradual proximity with cougars & wolves forced the authorities to repel the Elks with sonic warnings & rubber bullets.
The small town sits at the foot of Cascade Mountain (on the left) and around Tunnel Mountain, on the banks of the Bow River right besides the Trans-Canada Highway, about 2-3 hours drive from Calgary. In the bottom center of the picture we can also see the famous Banff Springs Hotel, whose sulfurous hot springs made quite a reputation and the delight of hikers.
This panorama is a stitch of 2 pictures taken from Sulphur mountain, who's cosmic rays observatory is a historic site accessible by gondolas. On the other hand, the 2006 forest fires in nearby Montana rendered contrasts difficult to obtain in the smoky air. I had to correct the colors a little because of the white balance skewed toward blue.

Voilà un panorama aérien impressionnant, même s'il y a un peu de brume (comment l'enlever ?) la vue est magnifique, lointaine et bien présenté avec le premier plan et l'assemblage réussi.
