Many postcards of Calgary are taken atop this vantage point. Across the Elbow river and in the foreground is Calgary's Stampede grounds with the iconic Saddledome, a hockey rink that is home to the Calgary Flames. The building's design is inspired by a horse's saddle (Calgary is in the heart of Cowboy country after all). In the background is Calgary's ever changing skyline, fuelled by the booming oil and gas industry. The Calgary Tower has been a fixture of the skyline since the late 1960s. It houses a revolving restaurant that gives impressive views of the sprawling city and mountains that are due west of town.

from sunny Cuba to snowy Canada - what a contrast :-) I like this wintery cityscape with the ice ring taking prominent place in the composition and catching an eye with its shape. Good choice of POV and nicely balanced colors and light.
Thanks for sharing

A view of the city from across the main highway at low light and your chilly self-sacrifice has produced a nice shot making the saddle at strong anchor point.
You have attained enough clarity, colours and detail in this difficult snowy condition, and the sky really finish this one off.. Very well done

we don't see many photos of Calgary on TE.
if you click on "Calgary" above your photos, the first gallery page of the most recent Calgary photos come up.
and the first page STILL has photos posted from 2011 !!
I've only driven through Calgary, havn't really spent much time in the city.
The Saddledome as it was once called is an Iconic subject for the city, it always looks great.
looks like a small city in terms of sky scrapers, but of course i enjoy it. lovely point of view here.

Easy to see why this would be a popular spot, it sure offers a great view over the city. The stadium takes center stage with its unique design, like a giant floppy frisbee. :) Looks mighty cold to me though, I've been in the desert too long now, I'm shivering just looking at this picture. Brrrr! Intriguing light, it's heavy under the clouds, but bright and warm up above...a contradicting scene. Although not huge in size, an impressive skyline just the same, would sure like to see more of this city here on TE. Well done! Have a good one. Take care.

nice the panoramic view of the snowy Calgary, with the skylines to dominating on the backdrop of the scene. The Scotiabank Saddledome is the eye catcher of the scene for someone who see the photo.

Beautiful panorama of Calgary, the architecture of this hockey rink is really impressive, I like the skyline of this city and the atmosphere created by the cloudy sky

Hi Caleb, the choice of point of view makes the difference, truly beautiful this large view of Calgary, great exposure and fine details and colors despite the difficult backlight, the architectural style of the palace of ice is very reminiscent of what they built in Milan, which collapsed almost immediately after the first heavy snowfall of 1985. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hi Caleb - I have a good friend from Alberta, but I've never been myself so it's always nice to get a feel for the place. Obviously winter is a cruel season in much of Canada, but this is a nice wintry shot with steam rising amid the skyscrapers and a great view of the arena. Thanks!

Notwithstanding the bad weather get we a very nice picture.
Indeed we can see very clear the horse's saddle, but also the skyscrapers in background.
You chose a very well angle, with all the towers.
Lovely big pictures, with nice light and colours.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice day,
