Photographer’s Note
HAPPY CANADA DAY everyone. July 1st is offically Canada Day where we celebrate our birth as an independent nation (1867). I thought this scan from a slide was an appropriate image as it is a reminder of all the settlers and homesteaders who came before us. Their resolve was incredible as they endured many hardships to make a living in the new land. This image was taken near Mankota in southern Saskatchewan and it shows the prairie grasses perhaps as they were before the Europeans arrived.
Well I am back from our jaunt to Oregon and Tofino on the west coast of Vancouver Island but my participation in TE will be short and sweet as I am busy with other things. I will try and respond to a few of my TE friends in the next little while. Well it is summer time and who wants to sit in front of the computer when summer beckons.
Thanks for looking.

Hi Phil,
So simple, but very effective in the landscape. We don't see things like this lying in the landscape, here they would clean it right away....there goes my composition ;-)
An oldie from the box, but still going strong in colour and made by excellent scanning...good work.

Hi Phil,
your scannings are all pretty damn exceptional and this one is no exception.
A simple yet extremely effective composition (simplicity is an art in itself!), perfectly framed, sharp, colorful, highly atmospheric.
At first glance I thought this was Wyoming...
Great shot and great editing.
Have a wonderful day, I'll see ya soon.
Cheers,
Fulvio.

Hi Phil,
Fine historical shot that in a simple but effective way shows the tremendous hardship of those who came west.
Love contrast between the long green grass and the pale blue sky. Fine details to this old wagon wheel.
Happy Canaday Day to you and all the Trek neighbors to the north.
Regards, Tom

A truly poetic composition all in pastel shades. It almost screams old right back at us. The composition is everything here.

Hi Phil
Your choice is very good for the event. That wooden old lonely wheel fits perfectly in that field. Excellent details and colours. You chose a very good point of view. Well done!

Excellent image which has stood the test of time and the scanning process very well. I like the way the grass is blowing in the same direction as the old wheel is leaning. Well done

Hi phil. Nice to have you back, but first and foremost enjoy the summer and all its delights. Also, a belated happy Canada day.Nice dedication to the early settlers and also an added thought of how it all was before the Europeans came and changed the continent. Regards. Klaudio.

Hello Phil,
I picked this out of your gallery as being an image that had a clear message and had great visual impact! It is simple but utterly stunning! The wheel is in exactly the correct place in the frame and dominates it!
Kind regards,
Bev :-)
