Photographer’s Note

Another Saskatchewan landscape, this time over the South Saskatchewan River inside the city limits of Saskatoon. You don't see many rolling hills in these parts, but as you see here, the hillsides down by the river are quite interesting. The late evening glow of the setting sun was quite spectacular. So while I was waiting for a moon rise shot (clouded over so didn't get one), I spent some time along the river and got this shot.

The river was playing its part well as a mirror to reflect the hills perfectly illuminated by the setting sun. The winter trees make an excellent frame. Well done

Hello Gerald! It was just some days ago that I was running around the house trying to catch the moon when the clouds moved in :) Sometimes you have a certain situation in mind ending up with something else, and if it is as good as this one it was worth the waiting. Beautiful evening mood with lovely reflections in the river coming from the little hills. I find it rather difficult to catch a winter evening and very often it looks somehow washed out. You managed really well, this is very good. Also to you, all the best for 2008. Barbara.

Wonderful scenery with a nice natural framing by the branches and trees. Light in the distance is wonderful, a warm glow over the fields. Nice calm water with a very good reflection inside...nice work, good expsoure also.

Magnificent light. The reflective river and the horizontal lines in this shot project a real sense of calmness at the end of the day. My relatives live near the river south of Saskatoon. I wonder if it is close to where you were.

Great shot! The lighting is what makes this really special, with the sun on the far river bank while the nearer bank is in shadow. The result is that the colours are dramatically different, so that the distant bank seems like it's from a different world. Beautiful!

The low lighting has produced a beautiful glow in your picture and I love the symmetry that the reflection has created. The trees either side frame well. A great shot.

Simple landscape but wondeful light, I like the horizontal layers and the transition from cold tones to warm and back to cold.
