The Athabasca River is wide here and fairly fast flowing. Tucked against the side of the river
under the flat horizon is the village of Fort McKay. It is cold on the river and the wind is relentless. One never seems to feel warm. The hands are numb and hypothermia keeps the canoeist at his job - paddling.
