Doesn't this picture give the impression that the man sits comfortably on the back of a cow, well, bull, graciously and effortlessly floating over the arena? You can even imagine the guy on the left, hurrying to grab the animal by the horns and prevent it from being carried away by the wind.
It turns out that bull riding is the most dangerous part of a rodeo, and I am sure you can see why... These bull riders have often many titanium screws and pins holding their skeletons together. During the summer, a rodeo takes place every weekend somewhere in Alberta. This one was in Olds, about an hour north of Calgary. Generally, the smaller the rodeo, the better and more authentic the show and the closer you get to watch it. And it is impressive to see such bull, slightly irritated after a ride of few tens of seconds, passing by like a locomotive on the other side of the fence, just a meter away.
Of course I would have liked the background to be nicely blurred, but this is all my long lens can give me at its maximum aperture.

Wow - perfect capture indeed - you simply got that flying bull at it highest - Thanks Roland for this great slow motion (still) shot :-) (Yes I watched this on TV - usually a short event)

Seems as if the it is a frozen moment of a very dyamic act (I've watched bull riding on TV) in it's perfect timing! I like the people's stressed expressions very much!

Great action shot Roly!
Sad to say... this Canadian (me) has never actually attended a rodeo. But with great shots like this one, it's a good alternative. Fantastic details, and color Roly.
Very well done, keep up the great work!

Good picture of this bull flying.
you managed to freeze the action at an interresting moment.
The guy sitting on the back of the bull looks very concentrated on his 'job'.

Waouw, tu te trouvais au bon endroit au bon moment ! Très bien saisi en plein vol. Un très beau cliché sur le vif. Très original !

Great timing! Yes, a blurred background would have been nice, but I really like this shot anyway.
Great colours and sharpness. Nice details.
You have manage to capture the action very well and I like the positions of the men and the bull in the picture.

Belle prouesse !
