Photographer’s Note
Wide, U-shaped glacial valleys are typical for the Rocky Mountains and the last bits of the huge glaciers that carved them are still found hidden at higher elevations. This one is the valley of the Kananaskis River, in the provincial park with the same name. Less known and spectacular than the Banff National Park, the Kananaskis Provincial Park doesn't suffer of overcrowding even at the height of the touristy season. The mountains here are only slightly over 3000 m high, but they are very steep, with narrow, jagged ridges and sharp and loose sedimentary rock - another trademark of the Rocky Mountains. The sedimentary layers, brought to strange angles and contortions during geologic times, are clearly visible in this image.

Wow! I think I need to move to Canada, it's breathtaking! as is this photo. The steep cliffs are amazing, the puffy clouds just perfect for this shot. I love the whole wilderness look to this photo, hardly any sign of humans on the landscape, except the road that invites exploration. Again, WOW, I don't really know what else to say, clear, sharp, amazing landscape, a masterpiece!

Another stunning shot Roly!
The valley reminds me of one of those half-pipes you would see at a snowboard or skateboard competition... almost perfectly smooth- amazing!
The colors are superb and true, and the clarity is flawless. I've added this one to my fav's!
Well done!

What a fantastic photo.
I love the u shaped valley. Almost looks like you have warped it, I'm sure it was nature though.
A beautiful location shot so well.
Great work

Hi Roland,
excellent view of this valley, excellent POV.
The landscape is beautiful but it's not enough to make a good shot.
Here the light, the colors and the sky are very good, too.
Well done !

I like the perfect curve of the valley in this photo, which is continued in the trees in the left. The clouds really add a lot to the overall scene too. Beautiful!

Beautiful picture! I especially like the way the cloud shadow reveals the shape of the valley floor. Great color and sharpness. Very well done, Don.

Very impressive, the U shape of the glacial carving is well evident here, reinforced by the shadows of the clouds, and that polariser worked wonders on the sky once more.

Very nice picture, interesting POV, good sharpness, well done!
We'll have to go back there!

You got some super light and cloud on this landscape Roland, obviously in the right place at the right time. :) Excellent capture!

Hi Roly, you have managed to capture the vastness of this place well. The line of mountains seems to go on forever and they almost touch the sky. The trees and the shodows on the valley floor give a very pleasing curvature to the lower part of the picture.

Another great mountaiscape work. Your present this area very well. Super subject. The composition and the lighting are pretty much ideal. It is hard to find sth to be picky on. Well-done work.

les collines et montagnes sont tres tres jolies! j'adore le change de couleur des collines vertes, et puis il monte aux montagnes blanches et finalement il s'etend les nuages blanches aussi!

That's a beautiful shot. I've never seen such a perfectly formed u-shape valley. I like the way the trees perfectly complement the U of the valley beyuond.
I've been to Banff but not Kananskis. Apparently I went to the wrong park! :)

je découvre ta galerie aujourd'hui et je dois avouer qu'il y a un très grans nombre de photos qui me plaisent.
Celle-ci par ses lumières, ses couleurs naturelles et son cadrage, un paysage de nature vraiment séduisant et sauvage.

Hi Roland
I first thought this picture was taken with a fisheye... which is not the case. The curve of the valley is really highlighted by the trees in the foregrounc as well as by the cloud shadows.
