Photographer’s Note

Finally, spring has arrived here, too, on the top of the 8 km long and 2500 m high Opal Ridge. The ridge can be seen in the background, continuing with another 4-5 little peaks. It is situated in Kananaskis Country, along Highway 40, away from the very touristy Lake Louise - Banff - Calgary corridor. Not many plants survive under these conditions, as proven by the bare, reddish buttress in the background. Only the really tough ones.
Good mountain photography is very finicky with regard to light, and nearly impossible with an overcast sky. But I can't really pick my weather, so I did my best, trying to avoid much sky in the image. The peaks in the very back are shrouded in clouds and fog.
