Photographer's Note

This spot is a 10-minute walk from the road. But it felt like the Alaskan bush. The smoke from forest fires in BC and western Alberta gave the scene something of a primeval look. The sun was barely penetrating the haze. My lenses don't do so well with direct shots at the sun, but I thought it might be a good time to try. I like how this one turned out.

This was an area of Kananaskis I hadn't previously visited, the Elbow Valley. I came here for Forgetmenot Pond, a beautiful but fairly tame pond just off the road with great views of the Front Ranges (behind me in this shot--the hills in the distance are the Alberta Foothills). I'll be coming back for this view of the Elbow River.
