Photographer's Note

Driving along the Spray Lakes Trail about 45 minutes after sunrise, I came across what I later learned is Buller Pond. Right off the road, it's a lovely peaceful spot that reminds me of Utah's Uinta mountains (one of my favorite spots on earth).

The light was very moody--just how I love it. I was chatting with a fellow photographer from Washington when a moose came wandering down the road. Didn't really get any good pictures of the moose, but it was cool to see my first moose in Alberta.

Funny: I'd seen dozens of moose in Utah, several in Montana and Wyoming, and even two in Nova Scotia. And in Alberta I'd seen lots of bears, deer, elk, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, and even a caribou (which are fairly rare in Jasper and practically nonexistent in Banff). But I'd never seen a moose in Alberta until this trip. And within a half hour I had seen three. When it rains it pours...
