Photographer’s Note
I liked the original of this shot, but for some reason I missed some major overexposure of the clouds. So I thought I'd take a second crack at it.
I played with the highlights handlebar in Aperture for this (I downloaded the trial version, and in some respects I like it better than Photoshop), and used a red filter in Aperture, but otherwise there weren't a lot of changes. I think this version turned out much better, but I'll leave that up to you folks to comment on.
The Athabasca River is one of the most important rivers in the western part of Canada, and the major river in Jasper National Park. For a good portion of its length, the Icefields Parkway runs alongside, so there are lots of great overlooks with stunning views of both the river and the mountains. This is just one, but due to the incredible mountains in the area I decided to spend my last sunrise in Jasper here. It didn't disappoint.

Hi Clark,
I can't believe that nobody commented on this yet. It has that Ansel Adams kind of look and at the same time the atmosphere seems almost spooky to me, maybe due to the darker clouds (to me they do look better on this version than on the original). Overall it seems a bit soft to me, though. But the interesting mood sure makes up for it.
Best,
Claudia

Hi Clark,
Ansel Adams style, perhaps less sharp, but still a very underrated photo... only 2 points in more than a day!!
good work, I wish I can get photos in B&W like this
cheers

Hi Clark
Great PP work here. The clouds look great with a fabulous bit of light on the mountains. The little island makes for a good focal point.
Actually I'm not a tax accountant per se but being in public practice means that we prepare tax returns for our clients during March and April. I also do a fair bit of auditing as well.
Cheers
Phil
