Photographer’s Note

I liked the original of this shot, but for some reason I missed some major overexposure of the clouds. So I thought I'd take a second crack at it.

I played with the highlights handlebar in Aperture for this (I downloaded the trial version, and in some respects I like it better than Photoshop), and used a red filter in Aperture, but otherwise there weren't a lot of changes. I think this version turned out much better, but I'll leave that up to you folks to comment on.

The Athabasca River is one of the most important rivers in the western part of Canada, and the major river in Jasper National Park. For a good portion of its length, the Icefields Parkway runs alongside, so there are lots of great overlooks with stunning views of both the river and the mountains. This is just one, but due to the incredible mountains in the area I decided to spend my last sunrise in Jasper here. It didn't disappoint.
