Mount Athabasca (3491 m) is a spectacular glaciated peak in the close proximity of the highway. Towards the end of the summer the layer of snow melts exposing the bluish permanent ice. Behind the peak is the frozen desert of the Columbia Icefield, more than 300 square kilometers in surface and up to 300 m thick.
The easy access from the highway, the relatively easy ascent and the magnificent view makes Mt. Athabasca a favorite target for climbers and mountaineering schools. There are several routes leading to the top, which is the one carrying the cloud cap. To its right, in the center of the image, is the Silver Horn.
The burnt ice surface is not a major exposure issue on film or print but seems to be due to both the inability of the universal scanner to recognize various shades of white and my inability to correct this in PhotoShop. Any suggestions regarding how to deal with snow?

Great colours and very good composition of this landscape picture.
Snow is a little bit difficult to photogrphy because it is very bright and the light metering in the camera is often don't give the correct values for the exposure, in this picture you have combination of very bright surface and very dark one, and this is deffenetly a problem, one of the ways to deal with this problem is to take two shots (on a tripod of course), one with light metering from the snow and the second with light metering from the darker parts and then to combine the two layers in PS.

Wanderful view, lovely colours of the ground, snow, sky and clouds. Very nice composition. And I agree with elroy, very nice explained.
But the capture is still right now just amazing.

Pretty photograph, likes to see this winter landscape with a beautiful blue sky, well considering.

Very impressive mountain, Roland! I know the problems with the snow, too, but I find you did it very well here.
