Another shot from Moraine Lake, in Banff National Park. I spent one evening and the following morning at this place in mid July last year and got dozens of great shots, which I'm still working on posting. Apparently I was pretty lucky in my timing, because last year was quite bad as far as weather goes, with not too many opportunities. Fortunately I live close enough that I can wait for a good weather forecast and then go up for a long weekend.

The mountains behind the lake are known as the Wenkchemna Peaks, and altogether there are 10 of them, with 6 visible in this shot. In the 1890's some of the first hikers and climbers to come to the area were a group of students from Yale University. Being Americans they tended to give local features native Indian names, which is a refreshing change from the usual names that Canadian or British explorers used - members of the royal family or government, or even directors of the Canadian Pacific Railway (which was the first major transportation route to the area, passing through the Rocky Mountains nearby). Believe it or not there are a couple of mountains that are not even named after people, just titles - The President and the Vice President (of the railway, I presume).

Hello Alvin,
This is so beautiful. Perfect reflection on the stillness of the water. Breathtaking perspective captured in superb clarity. I like all the details especially the rock and white scattered cloud against that stunning blue sky.
Regards,
Jusni

Wow love the reflection and colors of the scenery, awesome pic..My favorite ...

I have to be honest Alvin;

I've seen soooooo many shots from Moraine- they're all starting to look the same to me now! (fair enough as the majority I'm SURE are yours anyways!)

Excellent compo as always, good tonal levels, and rich (yet natural) color. Well done Alvin...

Hello Alvin,

A good follow up image to your previous similarly beautiful shots like Sunrise on Magic, Wenkchemna Sunset, Alpine Dream and Over and Under. You are very fortunate to live in one of the worlds most livable nations. While indeed similar to your previous photos, it does possess its own subtle uniqueness because of the lighting and the position of the rocks in the foreground. I know that when I visit this location someday I will find it very hard to resist taking many photos. The mirror quality is superb; you could almost pass this image when flipped upside down as the original (without the rocks). The attention to detail is top grade. Enjoy your week.

Matt

Great picture. Well composed. I could see the hidden signature of your's, in the picture. Thanks for posting.

Beautiful shot Alvin! The colors, the weather, the reflections - everything's very nice. Similar to your story, the weather was not so cooperative when I was there 1.5 years ago. Now I have to count on your shots to really see the beauty of some of Banff's lakes. TFS! rgds.

Hello Alvin,
You are a master with this Singh-Ray grad filter. I don't see any evidence of this filter at all. Practice makes perfect I guess. I love this photo and what I like the most is the softly rendered reflection of the clouds in the immediate foregroud. It creates a real nice arc which compliments the vertical lines and softens the effect of the jagged rocks somewhat. I always enjoy viewing your amazing landscapes!
Stan

Hi Alvin, superb landscape and great place. Excellent photo quality! I like the composition, lights,POV,reflections and transparent water. Perfect job!

TFS and regards,
Philip

What an awesome view. Everything is just perfect.

This is a great composition. Classic. Perfect. The exposure is good. I would have only darkened a bit the lower section (below the water line). It's a bit strange that the reflected section is lighter that the top section... But that Banff is really a paradise on Earth and you are a master portraying it. Very good.

Ciao Alvin phantastic photo!!!light, reflection and composition are extraodinary! Bravo Letizia

That is a fantastic image with lovely reflections, the POV and colours are outstanding.
Best wishes,
Achim

Wonderful mirror image, great reflections a splendid colours generaly.
Very well composition, lovely work.
Thanks for sharing.

Best regards,

Hi Alvin,
A real beauty, much better than the Louise upload from last week. Here the light is the key factor and it really shines on the mountains with a superb reflection. The line of green from the trees leads us to the far background, excellent play with light and shadow. Really looking forward to stand here myself....
A great shot, you let the magic from the Canadian Rockies shine here on TE.
Regards, Henk

Hi Alvin,
Ah, a very fine image indeed - quite classic in a way given other images seen from Morraine Lake including some of your own. Excellent light and perfect clarity and sharpness. Awesome reflections. Fine work and TFS. Gerald

Hi, my friend!
It is very interesting view. It is very beautiful nature. Good composition. Nice warm colours and good light. Well done. I like your reflection in water.

Hi Alvin,

A good capture of Moraine lake and of the Ten peaks, the reflections in the water are an asset to the picture. You did use a very good technique to create this masterpiece. Thanks for sharing.

Pierre

Another classic Alvin, excellent composition and such astonishing scenery you have in Canada. Very nice work.

Hello Alvin,
Fntastic look at the lake and peaks! Perfect compo with the foreground rocks and reflections. Would have been nice to see this unfold before you!
Excellent post...
Steve

I can never get tired of photos from this lake, this is simply gorgeous, for a place like this a good weather forecast (assuming it's an accurate one!) is the key, a classic for sure.

Hi Alvin,
Your photos of these wonderful lakes of the Rocky ones in your country, I think that they are the best that I have seen, you creates a few really magnificent compositions, always with a great work with the light, with a few beautiful colors, a few very well selected settings, and especially, with the reflections that the lakes give you, and that you catch skilfully.
When I see a miniature of the photo of one of these lakes and these beautiful mountains, immediately I think: Alvin's photo.
Thank you for sharing so many natural beauty.
Friendly regards,
Josep

Hi Alvin,
I guess you'll never get tired of that place, another fine capture of the instant and it seems you use just about the right filter to equalize the sky tones with those of the reflected parts of the water. Very nice.
Have a nice day,
Jean-Yves

Hi Alvin,

Hi Alvin,

what a fine landscape, makes me a wish to visit the place and do some trekking. Fine idea to include two stones in the foreground. The clouds, especially the reflections, make the image very dynamic.

Needless to say, but the technical execution is a+.

Hi Alvin,

probably one of the most shot place on earth. But if Mother Nature did the best part of the work, your skill did the other to give us a great shot! TFS!

Hi Alvin,

My favorite lake again and what a great job you did in capturing its beauty! I love the light very much, great colors and beautiful details. The reflections on the water are stunning and I like the rocks in the foreground as well as the transparancy of the water! Excellent work, Alvin!

Greetings,
Ann

Beautiful postcard image. Indeed the weather was perfect for a good photo.
Gary

Hello Alvin:

Wonderful composition. The mirror effect is remarkable and clear in all its details.
The portrait format has been the best way to observe a large landscape, full color, brightness and quality.
Excellent work!!!

John

Hi Alvin!
I must have been dozing because I have missed this whole page...all of which are superb and an inspiration. This shot of moraine lake is wonderful as are all the others....the light is magic. I was there in September in the early morning, but there was no good light. My theory was that the late afternoon is the best time, but I see by this pic and another pic of Moraine Lake in the morning, that I am wrong. Great work, cheers,
Steve

Hi Alvin. I really have to visit Canada at some point. I won't kid myself that I could do your beautiful country the photographic justice you achieve time after time but to be able to just stand in the midst... This image just transports the mind. Exposure, composition and sharpness, all spot on.

Best regards

Robin

Hi Alvin!
All I can say is that it's a marvellous landscape, reflected on the mirrorlike lake so perfectly!
All I wanted to is to visit this place sometime in my life!
TFS - Congratulations!

Neyvan
