Sunset on the Canadian Rockies, taken at Moraine Lake. The mountains behind the lake are know as the Wenkchemna Peaks, explaining the title. The normal time to photograph here is at sunrise, because the mountains are south and west of the lake, so in the afternoon the sun is directly behind the mountains, giving you a washed out appearance in photos. In the summer time you have another option. If you wait long enough the sun will go completely around to the other side of the mountains and shine on them from the opposite side, almost northwest. On this ocassion I was lucky to have perfect weather and even some interesting clouds, a rare circumstance this past summer!

this looks so surreal. Good composition, great colors. unbelievable job

Hi Alvin,

If there's something all canadians can relate to, it's certainly the rockies and I can only regret that I'm living at the opposite side of the country... This is an idyllic playground for photographers and I can see you're the king of your domain... :-P)

Of course, the light is simply splendid and generous and the reflection is absolutely gorgeous. But you point of view is key in this composition, as all the peaks are aligned to create a nice diagonal. Even the cloud seems to surf on it!

Fabulous work!

André

Hi Alvin,
Another stunning image from Morraine Lake. Great mountain view with exceptional details and depth. Very good clarity and sharpness in this fine presentation. Great work Alvin, and TFs. Gerald

Hi Alvin!
Great shot of this wonderful landscape. The colors and reflections are great and I like the light in the distance.
Now I would like to be there for a few minutes,to escape from the heat.
Greetings from Laos,
Leo

Hello Alvin,
From the relatively recent date, I can say that you were there once more, and Banff is not the next step from Vancouver, unless you take a plane to Calgary.
Magnificent vertical frame showing us the the summits, the color and the framing is perfect as usual.
Many thanks - Izezt

Alvin
Quel somptueux paysage....et quelle magnifique photo au couleurs splendides. Très belle lumière de fin de journée qui éclaire superbement la montagne.

Hi Alvin:

Moraine Lake once again, as only you can do. Looking at your photos gets me a bit antsy--my Calgarian wife and I are planning a trip to Banff and Yoho for July. I'm so excited that I'm already planning it! :) The sharpness on the mountains is fantastic, and I love that little cloud there. Great job, as always.

Clark

Bonjour Alvin,
des images toujours très captivantes de ces massifs canadiens superbes, raides et entourés de lacs. Souvent de jolis ciels aussi.
Ici , j'aime ce nuage un peu narquois.
Bien cadré , j'aime le choix du format vertical.
Best regards.
Daniel.

Hi Alvin,
Each tiniest corner of this place must already appear x times in your gallery (and in Norbert's one as well), but it's a continuous enjoyment to see it coming back regularly, the place deserves it and you show us here another nice view dynamized by the cloud but also but the sun lighting matching its direction, and the glowing peak snow is that little extra.
Have a nice day,
Jean-yves

Hi Alvin,
it looks like a dream
great clearity,wonderful colours,sharpnes
excellent shot
compliments

Bonjour Alvin
Très esthétique ce nuage qui vient habiller le ciel de ce très joli paysage.La réalisation est parfaitement gérée.
Bravo et bonne journée.

Light is indeed very favorable here to show the colours and details of the mountains, the diagonal cloud which parallels the mountain line is a large bonus, reflection is crisp, I wonder wasn't it possible to make a symmetric shot with the complete reflection?

Cheers
Alexander

Hi Alvin beautiful capture! Love the strong diagonal composition, the clouds add to this also. Splendid palette of colour in this one. Excellent work and well done on QC.

Nicely composed winter photo with great colour and clarity! Great shot.
Best wishes,
Achim

Hi Alvin
amazing how this landscape changes within the day. the colours and light are really good and the mountains in the back are amazing against the blue sky
cheers
chris

Hi Alvin,
Wonderful light you captured here. the play with light and shadow and the glow on the mountain in the background is truly wonderful.
The clouds add indeed something extra and they create even a betetr composition. Wonder how the right side was...a second exposure there and then stitching?
Whatever, the view here is already beautiful...only 9 months to go ;-)
Regards, Henk

Lots of triangles happening here with the cloud following the diagonal line of the mountains. Gorgeous reflections. Excellent image as always Alvin. By the way I don't think I was familiar with the name Wenkchemna Peaks. Thanks for the info.

Hello Alvin,

This one is worthy of a dedicated, thorough critique. Critiques that only say 'good work' or 'what a great photo' are useless to you. I find this image to be very well planed, executed with precise timing and taken form the best position. From this angle the alignment of the peaks is such that each successive one extends the viewpoint equally into the distance offering this beautiful quality of depth. The comparatively slow shutter speed has helped to produce those mirror-like reflections below. Many a tourist would snap at any point during the day, but it seems your dedication and patience has paid off here in this late afternoon shot, counteracting the washed out look suggested in your note at other times. The photographic quality is flawless; the finest of details are visible, such as the canoe (which in turn provides some scale). Saturations are spot on perfect, not overdone by a false polarizer or left weak and unflattering. This is a near perfect image. The only suggested improvement would be the inclusion of a foreground, such as the shoreline, however you may have viewed this as a distraction away from the rest of your image. A delight. 10/10.

Matt

Awesome capture Alvin. I really like the top left to bottom right diagonal that you've created across the shot - it seems to add great depth. Despite the bottom left being in shade and the sky being very bright and blue, there's detail everywhere and that can't have been easy to achieve. Wish it were one of mine! Regards, Paul.

Magique tout simplement. Ca doit etre quelquechose ces Rocheuses!

Another great photo. Love the way everything leads to the right.
