Tonight is Christmas Eve in the Christian world, the eve of the day on which Jesus Christ was born--according to tradition anyway. In reality, the holiday's placement in December has more to do with Christianization of pagan holidays than with historical fact, but personally I like that Christmas comes in December. So many great traditions (at least in the Northern Hemisphere) having to do with the cold and snow. Personally I prefer Christmas Eve over Christmas day. Christmas day has just become so materialistic--Christmas Eve is peaceful, joyful, and holy to me.
Taken from the ski lift today at Sunshine Village in Banff National Park. I think this is the first time I've seen a completely blue sky at Sunshine. The ski resort is woefully misnamed. But it's a very pretty place, especially when it's sunny and the temperature is above -10 C.
Merry Christmas to each of you. And if you don't celebrate Christmas, then a very merry holiday of your choice in December 2009.

merry Christmas to you too :)
this looks like a perfect winter postcard, the intense blue of the sky seemingly reflected in the blue shadows on the road that nicely leads the eye towards the mountains. and I've always enjoyed tiny accents in photos, like the half moon you have here. great shot, Clark, I like it a lot.

What a gorgeous place to be on Christmas Eve. I agree with you about Christmas day and the commercialization. I would rather just cuddle up by the fire on Christmas eve with my loved ones and reflect on the birth of our Saviour Jesus and enjoy the ones I love.
Love the composition of this image, and capture of the snow in the trees. What a beautiful blue sky! Very nice.
