A photo of Herbert Lake in Banff National Park in the Canadian Rocky Mountains.

About this photo: I am dreaming of going back to the Canadian Rockies. I am hoping to make a trip there again in September of this year. It has been 3 years since I was there last and I think it is time...especially now that I have a DSRL camera.

During our stay in the Canadian Rockies in September 2006 we stayed a few nights in Golden, BC and the other nights we stayed in Jasper. On one of the days that we stayed in Golden we explored parts of Yoho National Park and the area round Lake Louise with Moraine Lake.

This day we left for Jasper and would stop at several lakes and viewpoints along the Icefield Parkway on our way. We had never stopped at Herbert Lake before, but I had seen such nice photos from this place, so this time we decided to stop. The weather wasn't excellent, but it wasn't too bad and I think I got a few decent shots of this place anyway. Hopefully I will be able to get a good sunrise here if we go back!

Some information on the Canadian Rocky Mountains: The Canadian Rockies are located about 800km (500 miles) east of Vancouver on the border of the province of British Columbia and Alberta. There are 7 National Parks that belong to the Canadian Rockies which strectches out over an area of 25,000 square km (15,625 square miles).

These are the National Parks that belong to the Canadian Rocky Mountains: Mount Revelstoke National Park, Glacier National Park, Kootenay National Park and Yoho National Park which are located in British Columbia and there is Banff National Park, Jasper National Park and Waterton Lakes National Park which are located in Alberta. This amazing area is known for its beautiful blue-green lakes surrounded by mountains, glaciers, rivers, waterfalls and a diversity of wildlife. One can enjoy the endless views and there is a great variety on walking/hiking trails for everybody to enjoy.

Some info on Herbert Lake: Herbert Lake a very pretty lake that you can see along the Icefields Parkway. Due to the popularity of Lake Louise, Moraine Lake and Peyto Lake this lake gets often missed by tourist and makes it a great place for some good photos and quiet times. There is also a picnic area located at the north end of the lake.

You can go for a stroll along the lakeshore and admire the views. It's definitely worth to stop for a picnic or just a rest and it's a great place for some good photography. I am sure you won't be the only with a camera during a sunrise at this lake!
