Photographer’s Note

Meet Panipakoochoo. At the time I took this picture in 1988 he was one already one of the few remaining canadian Inuits to have spent most their life in the wildernee. Apart from the belgian Oblats missionary Father Vandevelde, who arrived in the region in 1926,Panipakoochoo may have met explorer Rasmussen or Framcis Hall, around 1910 but the first contingent of white men arrived on his land in the late 50s for the construction of the DEW Line, a radar network developped by the US to protect North America from soviet mussiles. Panipakoochoo a respected man in his community uses 16 different names for snow and was still a regular winner of the annual dog sled race and the igloo building contest. One of the greatest man I ever met .

Joli cliché en effet, on y respire même le froid dans le souffle de l'homme. Si on y rajoute de jolies couleurs et une belle lumiére, dont on a su tirrer profit, le résultat est parfait.

While making some of my medical training in Ottawa long time ago, a had the pleasure to meet some of the people living up north in Canada, very pleasant people.
Very good shot, nicely captured, good composition.

Jean-Pierre! C'est une photo que j'adore! Je la regarderai ce soir sur mon écran qui est mieux calibré qu'au travail et je reviendrai avec une critique plus poussée. Mais, je peux déjà dire que j'ai un coup de coeur! Directe dans mes photos favorites!
Me voilà de retour! Et j'avoue ne pas savoir encore pourquoi j'aime autant cette image. Peut-être parce qu'elle parle d'un temps passé, du silence du Grand Nord, d'un homme qui semble t'avoir touché. Bien sûr, au niveau technique, il y a bien quelques petits défauts, mais la photographie, à mon avis, quand elle touche le coeur et l'âme n'a que faire de quelques défauts techniques. J'aurais aimé voir l'image encore plus grande. Si possible, utilise la limite extrême accordée du 800 pixels...
Merci de nous avoir présenté Panipakoochoo. Ce fut un plaisir!

Félicitations, je m'associe avec retard aux avis experts déjà formulés. L'homme a posé mais tout est réaliste et sincère. Couleurs, sujet, décors, tous les ingrédients sont là pour faire unne bonne image.

C'est parce que cette photo se trouvait ce matin dans les "favorite featured photos" que je l'ai découverte - j'adore ce genre de portrait, qui nous présente quelqu'un dont on n'aurait jamais soupçonné l'existence, et la note qui accompagne la photo est aussi très utile. "TFS", bravo !
