Photographer’s Note

A maple syrup production farm is called a sugarbush,sugarhouse or the sugarwoods. Sap is boiled in a "sugar shanty", "sugar shack", "sugarhouse" or "cabane à sucre", a building which is louvered at the top to vent the steam from the boiling maple sap.
Maple syrup comes from eastern Canada, particularly Québec, Ontario, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick, and the northern United States, especially New England, New York State and the Great Lakes states. However, given the correct weather conditions, it can be made wherever maple trees grow.

Hi Michel, I've been to a couple of sugar sheds and loved it. You've caught the atmosphere here well, complete with the snow, and even the sap buckets (do they still use those?). Exposure is good in this shot, with great colour and detail. The composition with the shed placed as it in in that snow, in front of the forest and that awesome sky is very good.

Hello Michel,

I like the blue tinge on this image. I find it very sharp and attractive. The shed is nice in the middle of this snowy setting. The trees rame the building well and give ths setting a more natural look. Good framing of this winter scene Michel.

Bonjour michel,

Le temps des cabanes à sucre, un endroit qui est très populaire en cette saison printanière. Le sentier dirige notre regard vers la cabane à sucre au toit bleu. Les arbres cadrent bien la cabane. La réflexion de la lumière sur la neige rehausse les couleurs. La photo est claire et précise. Bonne journée.

Cette cabane à sucre au milieu de la neige est un symbole de ton pays. J'aime les bleus de la cabane qui répondent au bleu du ciel. La neige n'est pas surexposée, c'est très beau.

Salut Michel,
Une photo de circonstance et j'espère que ça va faire couler les érables qui tardent cette année. Belle prise de vue et très jolie cabane. c'est pas les cabanes qu'il y avait quand j'étais jeune et qu'on faisait bouillir dans de grands chaudrons de fer noirs. Les couleurs sont superbes et beau contraste sur la neige entre l'ombre et la lumière.

Hello Michel,

A very pleasant scene here, this place looks very cozy nestled in the snow and naked forest. I like the pathways trampled into the snow leading towards this residence. It is pleasant to see the blue sky penetrating trough the trees in the background. The soft lighting, broken by the trees produces some fine patterning effects on the fresh snow below them. Thanks for the post; it makes me realize what winter should be (not 22C as it is here on our cooler days).

This is an interesting capture of this manufacturing site, nicely located in the midst of what I suppose are maple trees!
A fine spring atmosphere, still snowy but the light tells the story of the season...
A well balanced composition with fine details!

What marvelous blue tones and shadings. The shack is well set at a diagonal and the blue roof and shutters are lovely against the snowy surroundings. The tracks lead in nicely and the sky looks a perfect shade of blue behind the bare limbs. Wonderful light and contrast and I like the long shadows. Really a beautiful shot. J'imagine l'odeur sucrée qui peut sortir de ces cheminée... si c'est le cas, ce doit être bien agréable !!! J'apprécie beaucoup le piqué de la photo. Tout est bien géré ici lumière et couleurs naturelles. C'est très agréable à détailler. Bravo Michel et merci pour la note.
