Winter Rhapsody X- Fronzen Waterfall, a photo from Quebec, Central

Photographer's Note

Montmorency Falls in winter is an unforgetable sight. Eventhough Lonely Planet describes it as a trap for tourists it should not be missed in winter, specially if you had never seem a frozem fall before (which was our case). It was our first trip out of the Montreal region and we really enjoyed our day outdoors. It was a snowing and quite cold.
On that year, because of the low temperatures the falls were almost completely frozen. If you ever have a chance to go there the best view is from the bridge (on the picture). In other periods of the year the falls don't look anything nearly impressive.

I ran automatic contrast and level on the picture and converted to B&W.

This is what we dream for, and you have it: snow!!! Great B&W shot: I like the composition with the bridge in the upper side of the picture.
The sharpness is also there.

So you have to go through your archives to get some snow,great idea...
As you say,the Montmorency falls is a delight in the winter for its icy architecture.A tourist trap?maybe,so is Niagara and we keep going for its sheer beauty.

Hello Flavia.
That is pretty awesone. Good choice for B&W, some great contrasts here. I like the angle here with the bridge shooting in out of the left of the photo. Also, the tree in the foreground doesn't distract for me, it adds to the photo.
Do you have any shots from the bridge?

Une belle photo, bien que le focus soit sur l'arbuste et non sur le pont, ce que j'aurais préféré. Bonne gestion du noir et du blanc.

Black and white works well here, Flavia, and I like the composition with the bridge placed near the top. It sure doesn't look like a tourist trap! Your exposure kept some texture in the snow, which helps the shot. Perhaps you could bring out more "punch" in a few spots, like the bridge, by selectively enhancing contrast, but mostly the tones are quite nice. Regards, Ken.

Excellent composition with the tree in the foreground which is giving lots of depth to the picture. The frosen waterfall is very impressive and your black and white trestment works perfectly here. Congratulations.

Very good B&W shot, your point of view is great with the bridge off center giving a nice perspective, good natural frame, sharpness and composition are excellent.

Hi Flavia,

a quite busy image with a whole cast of grey tones thanks to your black & white conversion...i am not a big fan of snow but could imagine this area being a cool playground for kids, even in the winter;-)...the waterfall seems like a regular hill slope under the masses of snow...cheers, arturo

I really like this composition Flavia - I'm not entirely sure if I can explain why but it really is very nice....excellent - I just find it so interesting to the eye - sounds like a really beautiful place too.

Hi Flavia,
Nicely composed with the old bridge on the top.
The snow is giving special quality to the nature scenes - everything feels so quiet and peaceful, almost as if the time stopped.
